Job summary

Regional East Texas Food Bank is seeking a Staff Accountant to maintain financial procedures and ensure compliance while preparing reports for internal and external stakeholders.

The role involves handling accounts payable/receivable, grant management, and supporting audits. A degree in accounting or related experience is preferred, with strong knowledge of MS Office and accounting software, and a high level of accuracy.

Qualifications

• College degree or equivalent experience.
• Associate degree in accounting with experience acceptable in lieu of 4-year degree.
• Thorough understanding of accounting, bookkeeping, and financial management information requirements.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
• Experience using accounting software.
• Ability to work collaboratively and facilitate team work.
• Experience with governmental/nonprofit environments is a plus.
• Self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit and motivation.
• Maintain knowledge of office equipment and software used by the organization.
• Strong attention to detail and confidentiality.
• Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Responsibilities

• Verify, allocate, post and reconcile accounts payable and receivable.
• Produce error-free accounting reports and present results.
• Analyze financial information and summarize financial status.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Perform daily deposits and manage petty cash.
• Pay bills and maintain billing files.
• Assist in annual financial audit preparations.
• Assist with grant management and compliance for the Director of Finance.
• Review statements for accuracy and legal compliance.
• Prepare documentation for external auditors.
