Job summary

MG Moving Services in Sterling, VA seeks an experienced Staff Accountant to join our growing accounting team. This role supports core accounting functions, ensures financial accuracy, assists with month-end close, and provides reporting and analysis to leadership.

The ideal candidate has GAAP knowledge, strong Excel skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include journal entries, reconciliations, AR/AP, bank reconciliations, and audits support.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in accounting or finance is required or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes.
• Proficient in Excel (PivotTables, lookups) and financial reporting.
• Experience with accounting software; QuickBooks preferred.
• CPA designation or CPA-track a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries, reconciliations, and GL adjustments.
• Assist monthly, quarterly, and year-end closings.
• Analyze financial transactions and ensure accurate GAAP recording.
• Manage AR/AP, invoicing, payments, and collections.
• Reconcile bank and credit card statements and balance sheet accounts.
• Prepare aging reports and follow up on outstanding balances.
• Assist in monthly financial statements and management reports.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow activities.
• Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies.
• Collaborate with operations to improve reporting and controls.
• Assist with audits and regulatory reporting.
• Participate in process improvements to increase efficiency.
