Job description

At McClintock & Associates, you won’t be one of hundreds of accountants competing for opportunities or waiting years for meaningful responsibility. We’re a close-knit firm of about 30–35 people where you’ll know the people you work with, build real relationships with clients, and have the opportunity to make an impact.

You’ll work alongside experienced professionals who are invested in your development, while gaining broader exposure and increasing responsibility as you grow. And while we take our work seriously, we also believe a successful career should leave room for life outside of work.

We’re proud to have been recognized as a Best Places to Work in 2021, 2023, 2024, and 2025. If you’re looking to continue your career in public accounting with a firm where relationships, growth, and balance matter, we’d like to meet you.

Our Core Values

Our Core Values shape how we hire, develop, and promote our team members. They reflect what we believe is critical to succeed at McClintock & Associates:

We Not Me – Collaboration and teamwork drive our success. We put the team first and support each other.

Lifelong Learner – We’re curious, committed to growth, and always looking for ways to learn, improve, and stay ahead.

Solution Minded – Challenges inspire us. We approach problems with creativity, focus, and a commitment to finding the right answers.

Family Focused – We believe in time away, both with our families and on ourselves. In an industry that demands a lot from us, we support time away and promote an environment that values employees’ mental and physical well-being.

Embrace Challenges – We step into challenges with confidence and a willingness to adapt. We see change and uncertainty as opportunities to grow, improve, and become better at what we do.

Position Overview

As a Staff Accountant on our Financial Services team, you’ll build on your public accounting experience while taking on greater responsibility across financial statement audit engagements.

You’ll work directly with Supervisors, Managers, and clients to perform audit procedures, assist with financial statement preparation, and contribute to engagements from planning through completion. Our smaller engagement teams give you the opportunity to understand the bigger picture behind the work you’re performing—not simply complete one piece of an audit and pass it along.

We’re intentional about helping our people grow. Through hands-on experience, regular coaching, firm training, and our Learning & Development (L&D) Dashboard, you’ll continue building your technical expertise, confidence, efficiency, and independent judgment as you progress toward the next stage of your career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform audit testing and analytical procedures for assigned areas in accordance with firm methodology and professional standards.
  • Assist in drafting financial statements, footnotes, disclosures, and other engagement deliverables.
  • Gather, organize, and analyze client information needed to complete audit and financial reporting procedures.
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and well-supported audit workpapers and documentation.
  • Communicate directly with clients and engagement team members to obtain information, resolve questions, and provide timely status updates.
  • Apply knowledge and experience from prior engagements to improve audit quality, efficiency, and independence.
  • Use firm technology and audit tools effectively to complete assignments accurately and consistently.
  • Take ownership of assigned responsibilities, manage deadlines, and proactively communicate questions, issues, or competing priorities.
  • Actively engage with the firm’s Learning & Development (L&D) Dashboard to track progress and continue developing technical knowledge and audit proficiency.
  • Attend and participate in departmental Level 10 (L10) meetings by providing updates on assigned responsibilities, contributing to issue discussions, and supporting team progress toward weekly and quarterly goals.
  • Take ownership of assigned quarterly Rocks by completing action steps on schedule, communicating progress during L10 meetings, and contributing to initiatives that strengthen departmental efficiency and client service.
  • Participate in Continuing Professional Education (CPE), firm training, and other professional development opportunities.
  • Contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment by demonstrating the firm’s Core Values and supporting colleagues across engagements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support client service and firm operations.

  • Working knowledge of GAAP and auditing principles.
  • Experience performing audit procedures and preparing clear, well-supported workpapers.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the confidence to interact professionally with clients.
  • Ability to learn from feedback and apply knowledge gained from prior engagements to new situations.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while taking ownership of individual responsibilities.
  • Strong time-management and prioritization skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
