Job description

Woodlock Capital and Lockwood Management are hiring a Staff Accountant to support accounting across our corporate entities and real estate management operations.

Reporting to Jason Paez, Director of Finance, you will own day-to-day accounting responsibilities in QuickBooks and AppFolio and help deliver accurate, timely financial reporting. The role is allocated approximately 40% to Woodlock Capital and 60% to Lockwood Management.

This is an opportunity for an experienced, hands-on accountant who enjoys detailed work, takes ownership, and wants to develop toward an Assistant Controller role as the business grows.

What You’ll Do

Maintain corporate books in QuickBooks for Woodlock Capital, Lockwood Management, the asset management company, and related GP and LP entities.

Manage corporate and property accounts payable and receivable, including invoice coding, approval coordination, payment preparation, billing, cash application, and outstanding balance follow-up.

Reconcile bank accounts and corporate credit cards, investigate discrepancies, and resolve outstanding items.

Process Lockwood Management payroll in coordination with the payroll provider and Director of Finance, including related accounting entries and reconciliations.

Manage property accounting in AppFolio, ensuring transactions are assigned to the correct property, account, and accounting period.

Record and reconcile intercompany transactions, management fees, reimbursements, and shared expense allocations.

Support month-end close through journal entries, accruals, prepaid expense schedules, balance sheet reconciliations, and financial reports.

Coordinate with property managers and vendors to resolve billing questions and obtain supporting documentation.

Prepare schedules and records for outside accountants, year-end reporting, and tax preparation.

Document procedures and help improve accounting processes as the organization grows.

What You Bring

Approximately 2–5 years of relevant accounting experience, including AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and month-end close.

Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks.

AppFolio experience strongly preferred; experience with comparable property accounting software will also be considered.

Experience handling accounting for multiple entities or properties.

A solid understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.

Payroll processing or payroll accounting experience.

Strong Excel skills and the ability to investigate and explain discrepancies.

A degree in accounting or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.

Real estate or property management accounting experience preferred.

How You Work

You are organized, accurate, and dependable. You follow through on open items, communicate issues early, and manage recurring deadlines alongside changing priorities. You are comfortable asking questions, recommending solutions, and taking responsibility for your work.

You enjoy the daily discipline of accounting and want to build the technical skills and judgment needed for broader responsibility.

Opportunity to Grow

As you demonstrate strong execution and sound judgment, your responsibilities may expand to owning more of the month-end close, preparing financial statements, improving internal controls, and reviewing others’ work. There is a potential path toward Assistant Controller and, over time, Controller, based on performance, readiness, and business needs.
