Summary: Provide dependable financial service to the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe through expertise and practical procedures for processing and maintaining sound financial records
Education Requirements and Experience:
- Two-year degree in Finance or Accounting or;
- Accounting courses with a minimum of 1 year of work experience in Finance or Accounting or;
- High School diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) with a minimum of 2 years work experience in Finance or Accounting
Additional Qualifications and Skills:
- Introductory knowledge of Governmental Auditing Standards to ensure compliance with OMB A-87 and OMB Circular A-133 and Generally Accepting Accounting Principles (GAAP) standards.
- Good knowledge of computer applications (Excel, Word).
- Good oral and written communication skills and customer service skills.
- Strong critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills.
- Ability to complete work and meet deadlines with little direct supervision.
- Possess or acquire ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports and some legal documents.
- Possess or acquire ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.
- Ability to write memorandums and emails that conform to prescribed style and format.
- Ability to effectively present information to upper management, interdepartmental staff, and/or division directors.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist the Program Accountants and Accounting Team Leader in recording and maintaining accurate financial records.
- Prepare periodic financial status reports and assists in competing monthly closeouts of general fund programs as they relate to reservation reporting requirements.
- Compile and analyzes financial information to prepare and post general journal entries, approve purchase requisitions and disbursement vouchers, and submit financial status reports to programs as requested.
- Assist in reconciling balance sheet control accounts to subsidiary records and verifies that financial statements are accurate and issued in a timely manner.
- Run current financial reports, edit/adjust for month/year-end closeout, and reclassify expenses to or from other programs for over/under expenditures.
- Prepare financial information detailing balance sheet and income statement accounts and other reports to summarize and interpret current financial condition for Program Manager.
- Communicate with Program Managers and/or Staff regarding status of programs.
- Monitor Visa Gift Cards & Reconciling for all programs.
- Program Accounting for various programs- including monthly closes, invoices, and requisitions.
- Reviewing and providing reports to staff and reporting agency.
- Assist with various Cash Management functions.
- Assist other programs within Accounting Department with various tasks.
- Accrue wages/fringe and accounts payables, address open purchase orders, post indirect cost and revenue.
- Attend and or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings as required.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.
- Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe positions.
- Travel in and out of the state on an as needed basis.
- Understanding and sensitivity to Native American culture.
- Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.
- Receive and records cash and check deposits.
- Prepare and perform bank deposits.
- Perform cash draw requests with various funding agencies.
- Will cross-train in various accounting departments to assist as needed.
