Job summary

Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe is seeking a qualified Social Worker to develop and implement intervention plans to protect children and families during personal crises. You will design case plans and work closely with tribes, county partners, and courts.

The role requires a BSW or related field, at least two years in Human Services, and experience with tribal systems. Native American preference applies, and background checks with pre-employment drug screening are required.

License/Certification Requirements: Licensed Social Worker (LSW) preferred. Valid MN Driver’s License, current insurance or be insurable.

Education Requirements and Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work (BSW) or other Human Services-related field.

Two years of experience in the area of the Human Services field.

One year of experience in administrative management or program development.

Experience working with Native American Indian children and families.

Experience working with Tribal and/or District court systems.

Experience in Microsoft applications.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

Knowledge of the Minnesota Indian Family Preservation Act and the Indian Child Welfare Act.

Knowledge of Minnesota Statutes in regard to Child Maltreatment.

Native American preference.

Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Must pass a criminal and social services background check.

Pre-employment drug testing is mandatory for all Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe safety-sensitive positions.

Supervisory Duties:

Assist Child Protection Program Manager with performance evaluations.

Provide minimal client caseload according to case-related duties of Case Manager’s job description.

Provide peer consultation and mentoring on cases with Child Welfare Case Managers and paraprofessionals.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Become knowledgeable of the Leech Lake Tribal Codes relating to Child Welfare services.

Become knowledgeable of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe and surrounding counties relating to services and issues of jurisdiction.

Become familiar with the Title IV-E Tribal/State Agreement.

Become familiar with the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Human Services programs and surrounding county Social Service agencies.

Provide peer consultation and mentoring on cases with Child Welfare Case Managers and other paraprofessionals within the Human Services Division.

Facilitate Case Consultation Team Reviews to identify and assess a wide range of children’s needs.

Monitor the assignment and follow-up of client case management for Child Protection cases.

Facilitate staff meetings in the absence of the Family Services Program Manager.

Provide internal orientation and mentoring opportunities for new employees.

Be available to answer day-to-day procedural and case management practice questions.

Develop and provide guidance in using a model case file system for staff reference.

Review and approve Difficulty of Care points.

Ensure Case Managers attend and are prepared for court hearings as an advocate to act on behalf of the child.

Ensure Case Managers thoroughly monitor case plans, submit timely court reports, provide quality services to clients, maintain proper documentation, and close out files as necessary in a timely manner.

Assist in completing Intake and Assessment activities when needed.

Assist in the development and implementation of an internal procedural manual for day-to-day operations.

Participate in planning, problem solving, and implementation of program services working closely with management to ensure effective delivery of services.

Participate in Leech Lake Multidisciplinary Team meetings, Leech Lake Child Mortality Team meetings, and Child Protection Team meetings hosted by the four counties surrounding the Leech Lake Reservation.

Be on call 24 hours a day, including nights, weekends, and holidays to assist law enforcement with child abuse reports and 72 hour holds.

Attend the Basic Social Work Core Training series as presented by the Department of Human Services.

Maintain a respectful working relationship with colleagues, Leech Lake Reservation program employees, county Human Service staff, and other community stakeholders.

Meet deadlines and prioritize workload.

Work effectively with minimal supervision.

Attend program activities outside normal working hours as necessary.

Attend and/or conduct all mandatory meetings and trainings.

Support and maintain sensitivity to Native American culture, lifestyles, and values.

Maintain high confidentiality and professional ethics at all times.

Travel in and out of the state as needed.

Adhere to all applicable data privacy laws.

Adhere to policies governing staff conduct.

All other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift 30 pounds or more and use proper body mechanics.

Be able to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
