Job summary

BFL Construction Co is seeking a Staff Accountant to support general ledger maintenance, month-end close, reconciliations and financial reporting from our Phoenix, Arizona office. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of accounting experience (construction preferred), a Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and proficiency with Viewpoint or Procore and Microsoft Excel.

You will collaborate with Operations and project teams to ensure accurate financials and timely audits.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of accounting experience (construction experience preferred).
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
• Exposure to construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and strong attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries in ERP.
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements.
• Analyze GL account activity and investigate variances.
• Assist with preparation of supporting schedules for audits.
• Coordinate with Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting.

Position Summary:

The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the company’s overall accounting operations, including general ledger maintenance, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial reporting. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data and supports project accounting functions as needed. The ideal candidate has strong, general accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and experience in a construction environment.

Key Responsibilities:

General Ledger & Financial Reporting

• Prepare and post journal entries in ERP
• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
• Perform monthly bank and credit card reconciliations
• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements
• Analyze GL account activity and investigate variances
• Assist with preparation of supporting schedules for audits

Month-End & Year-End Close

• Assist with month-end close procedures and deadlines
• Reconcile job cost subledger to general ledger
• Prepare accruals and prepaid amortization entries
• Support year-end audit and tax preparation processes
• Ensure proper cutoff procedures are followed

Accounts Payable & Receivable Oversight

• Code and post overhead expenses for timely payment
• Review AP batches for accuracy and proper coding
• Support vendor setup and compliance documentation
• Assist with AP & AR reconciliations and collections tracking
• Monitor retainage balances and aging reports

Construction & Project Support

• Reconcile project-related accounts and intercompany transactions
• Support change order and commitment reconciliation processes
• Calculate and pay Multi entity sales tax obligations

Collaboration & Communication

• Maintain organized financial documentation to support audits
• Ensure adherence to accounting policies and internal controls
• Coordinate with Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting
• Respond to vendor and subcontractor inquiries
• Support continuous improvement of accounting processes
• Participate in system training and development

Minimum Qualifications:

• 4+ years of accounting experience (construction experience preferred)
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Exposure to construction ERP systems (e.g., Viewpoint, Procore)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
• Strong attention to detail and communication skills
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
