Job description

A well-established industrial services company in West Odessa is seeking a Staff Accountant with strong, hands-on payroll experience to join its accounting team.

Reporting directly to the Controller, this position combines general accounting responsibilities with ownership of weekly in-house payroll processing. The ideal candidate has a solid accounting background, experience independently processing Texas payroll, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities accurately and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
• Prepare journal entries, bank reconciliations, and general ledger account reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end close and financial reporting.
• Review job costing, expenses, and account activity.
• Support audit preparation and maintain accurate accounting records.
• Work closely with the Controller on accounting processes and special projects.

Payroll

• Process weekly in-house payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Review employee time records, calculate hours, and verify overtime.
• Manage payroll deductions, garnishments, benefits, and 401(k) contributions.
• Prepare payroll tax deposits, quarterly filings, and payroll reports.
• Maintain accurate payroll records and resolve employee payroll discrepancies.
• Ensure compliance with applicable federal and Texas payroll regulations.
• Maintain payroll documentation and support payroll-related reconciliations.

Qualifications

Required:

• Current Odessa, TX resident.
• Hands-on experience independently processing in-house Texas payroll.
• Experience with general accounting functions, including AP, AR, reconciliations, and journal entries.
• Working knowledge of payroll taxes, deductions, and compliance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with the accounting team.

Preferred:

• 3+ years of payroll and accounting experience.
• Experience with Vista Payroll or similar payroll software.
• Experience processing payroll for 200+ employees.
• Background in construction, oil & gas, or industrial services.
• Experience with month-end close, job costing, and financial reporting.
