Job summary

Nacba is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our public accounting team in Minnesota. The role covers tax preparation, nonprofit auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, and general client accounting services, with a focus on client interaction and accuracy.

The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of accounting experience, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in Excel and accounting software. CPA eligibility is preferred but not required, with opportunities for CPA advancement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of accounting experience preferred; strong recent graduates considered.
• Familiarity with individual and business tax returns preferred.
• CPA eligibility or progress toward CPA designation preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

Public Accounting Firm | Full-Time

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our public accounting team. This position offers the opportunity to work with a diverse client base and gain hands‑on experience in tax preparation, nonprofit auditing, bookkeeping, payroll, and general client accounting services.

Responsibilities

• Prepare individual and business federal, state, and local tax returns.
• Assist with tax research, planning, and responding to client tax questions.
• Perform audits and other accounting services for nonprofit organizations.
• Prepare workpapers, financial statements, and supporting schedules in accordance with professional standards.
• Provide ongoing accounting and bookkeeping services for clients.
• Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts.
• Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, answer questions, and resolve accounting and tax issues.
• Maintain accurate, organized, and timely workpapers and client records.
• Stay current with applicable tax laws, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• 1-3 years of accounting or related accounting experience preferred; strong recent graduates will also be considered.
