Nextaff is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our public accounting firm. This role blends tax preparation, accounting support, and client relationship management.

The ideal candidate has public accounting experience, strong technical accounting and tax skills, and enjoys mentoring staff. You will prepare tax returns, conduct tax research, perform bookkeeping in QuickBooks, and provide proactive guidance to clients while ensuring IRS compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field required; CPA or CPA-eligible preferred.
• 3–6+ years of public accounting experience.
• Strong knowledge of individual and business taxation.
• Experience with QuickBooks and professional tax software.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and client service.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and review federal and state tax returns (Forms 1040, 1065, 1120, 1120-S, 1041, 990).
• Conduct tax research and planning and assist with tax projections and estimated payments.
• Perform and review bookkeeping, general ledger work, account reconciliations, and related accounting functions using QuickBooks.
• Prepare financial statements and professional client deliverables.
• Serve as a primary client contact and provide proactive accounting and tax guidance.
• Review work completed by staff accountants and provide mentoring and support.
• Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, applicable tax requirements, and firm standards.
• Assist clients with responses to IRS and state tax notices.
• Maintain accurate records and manage multiple client deadlines and priorities.
