Job summary

McGrath RentCorp is seeking a Staff Accountant in Livermore, CA to join our Corporate Accounting team. You will perform month-end close activities, post journal entries, and reconcile accounts to ensure GAAP-compliant financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and record journal entries for month-end close.
• Analyze financial transactions and investigate variances.
• Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close responsibilities.
• Prepare reconciliations for general ledger accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany balances and other corporate accounts.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting systems and subledgers, investigate variances and discrepancies.
• Support preparation of monthly management reporting packages and financial analyses.
• Prepare schedules and reports supporting internal and external financial reporting requirements.
• Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and account analyses.
• Assist with ad hoc financial reporting requests and special projects.
• Assist with SOX compliance and internal control documentation related to assigned processes.
• Ensure financial reporting is in compliance with GAAP.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen accounting processes and controls.

A Day in the Life

We are seeking a highly motivated Staff Accountant to join our Corporate Accounting team. This role will perform a variety of corporate accounting activities, ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP reporting requirements, maintain internal controls, and support external audit activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a solid accounting foundation, and a desire to continuously learn and grow in a dynamic accounting environment.
This position plays a critical role in monthly close activities, account reconciliations, revenue recognition, financial reporting, and audit support. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, ownership, and accountability.

What You'll Do

• Prepare and record journal entries as part of the month-end close process.
• Analyze financial transactions and investigate variances to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Execute monthly, quarterly, and year-end close responsibilities.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations for assigned accounts, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany balances and other corporate accounts ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely resolution of reconciling items.
• Reconcile general ledger accounts to supporting systems and subledgers, investigate variances and discrepancies, and ensure all assigned reconciliations are completed within reporting deadlines.
• Support preparation of monthly management reporting packages and financial analyses.
• Prepare schedules and reports supporting internal and external financial reporting requirements.
• Support internal and external audit requests by preparing schedules, documentation, and account analyses.
• Assist with ad hoc financial reporting requests and special projects.
• Assist with SOX compliance and internal control documentation related to assigned processes.
• Ensure financial reporting is in compliance with company accounting policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen accounting processes and controls.
• Perform other duties as assigned
