Job summary

The Post Oak is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. You will handle a variety of accounting tasks including reconciling general ledger accounts, preparing journal entries, and analyzing monthly data to understand trends and support decisions across the business.

You will work with ERP systems like Oracle, SAP, and NetSuite, and use Excel daily to report on performance across multiple restaurant locations. A Bachelor's degree in Accounting is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing manual journal entries as part of the monthly close process.

  • Compile monthly income statements and verify supporting documents for accuracy.
  • Review monthly financial results and investigate variances from historical trends or operational reports.
  • Maintain organized work papers that reflect balance sheet activity with documentation.
  • Provide timely accounting support to the Operations team.
  • Manage vendor payments to ensure timely processing.
  • Keep departmental spreadsheets up to date with current data.
  • Communicate with the Accounting Manager and Operations team about issues at locations.
  • Assist on special projects with financial insights and admin support.

Overview

Staff Accountant We’re looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team. In this role, you’ll handle a variety of accounting tasks—from reconciling general ledger accounts to preparing journal entries and analyzing monthly financial data. You’ll play a key part in helping us understand financial trends and support operational decisions across the business.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare journal entries for expense reclassifications, accruals, and prepaid items.
  • Compile monthly income statements and verify supporting documents for accuracy.
  • Review monthly financial results and investigate any variances from historical trends or operational reports.
  • Maintain organized work papers that clearly reflect balance sheet activity and include all necessary documentation.
  • Provide timely and accurate accounting support to our Operations team.
  • Manage vendor payments (utilities, rent, beverage suppliers, etc.) to ensure they’re processed on time.
  • Keep departmental spreadsheets up to date with current financial data.
  • Communicate regularly with the Accounting Manager and Operations team about any issues at specific restaurant locations.
  • Pitch in on special projects, offering financial insights and administrative support as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting preferred.
  • Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Experience preparing manual journal entries as part of the monthly close process.
  • 1–2 years of relevant accounting experience (internships count!). Experience in multi-unit or restaurant accounting is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems like Oracle, SAP, or NetSuite.
  • Strong communication skills—you know how to explain financial info clearly.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple tasks.
  • A team player who builds positive relationships and listens actively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Must pass an Accounting Proficiency Assessment.
