Overview

The Staff Accountant is a vital contributor to the company’s financial integrity and success by managing key accounting functions, such as accounts payable, cash receipts application, internal and external reporting, general accounting, payroll, financial audits, and internal controls. The Staff Accountant will support compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards, and work closely with cross-functional teams to create efficiencies, challenge processes, and promote financial excellence.

Base pay range

Job duties & responsibilities

Complete various recurring accounting tasks effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision within established timelines including, but not limited to:

  • Manage AP payments ensuring timely payments of vendors in compliance with SMM policies.
  • Prepare monthly journal entries and analyze AP aging. Review and reconcile supplier statements. Address vendor inquiries via phone calls and email.
  • Lead annual 1099 reporting.
  • Prepare and send invoices to customers, ensuring all necessary details are included.
  • Receive and process payments through various methods and apply them accurately to customer accounts. Address customer inquiries regarding invoices and payments. Follow up overdue invoices.

Perform variety of general accounting department tasks within time constraints to the satisfaction of clients (internal & external), including but not limited to:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries to record revenue for the parking ramp, food service and exhibit project sales, working with external parties to provide needed financial information.
  • Prepare payroll and benefit journal entries.
  • Complete account reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation, coordination, and successful completion of annual financial audit, A-133 audit, 401(k) audit, 990, corporate filings, etc. within the applicable timeframe to meet filing requirements.
  • Regularly assess internal controls to safeguard assets and support accurate and complete financial statements.
  • Fully utilize accounting software to maximize automation and minimize manual processes.
  • Develop, document and implement accounting processes and procedures by analyzing current procedures; recommending changes.
  • Coordinate intake and routing of contracts for review and signature
  • Answer accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
  • Collaborate effectively with museum staff as needed to provide accounting and financial related support and guidance
  • Develop and distribute financial reports as needed
  • Assist with various project requests & deadlines

*Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business strongly preferred
  • Experience: Strong knowledge of GAAP & internal controls. Expert level Excel skills. Highly developed analytical skills with strong attention to detail. Able to manage multiple projects with tight time commitments. NetSuite experience preferred. Combination of education and experience to demonstrate facility with essential functions of the position is required. May substitute an equivalent combination of education and experience, as determined by hiring manager.
  • Certifications: CPA preferred
  • Work Environment: Office environment Hybrid, in office minimum 3 days per week (Tue, Wed, Thu) core onsite days. Hybrid status subject to change secondary to business need.
