Job summary

SABG in Fairfax, VA seeks a Staff Accountant to support the CFO and accounting team in a government contracting environment. You will handle day‑to‑day accounting tasks including AP processing, expense reports, reconciliations, and month‑end close.

The role requires knowledge of GAAP and compliance with FAR/DFARS, with experience in Costpoint or Unanet preferred. You will work cross‑functionally with program managers and procurement to ensure accurate posting and timely reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Experience in government contracting or regulated accounting environment preferred.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP; familiarity with FAR/DFARS is a plus.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems (Deltek Costpoint, Unanet) is highly beneficial.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.

Responsibilities

  • Process accounts payable transactions, including vendor invoices, PO vouchers, and payment requests.
  • Set up Purchase Orders and process PO vouchers.
  • Review expense reports for accuracy, policy compliance, and proper cost coding.
  • Maintain organized AP documentation and support vendor inquiries.
  • Perform general ledger and subledger reconciliations (AP, credit cards, travel accounts).
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close tasks.
  • Prepare month-end adjusting journal entries (depreciation, prepaid expenses, accruals).
  • Support audits and provide requested documentation (internal, external, DCAA as applicable).
  • Ensure all accounting processes align with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and company controls.
  • Support employees with timesheet and expense report issues.
  • Collaborate with program managers, procurement, and finance to resolve discrepancies.
  • Contribute to process improvements in AP, expense management, and reconciliation workflows.
  • Work on projects assigned by the CFO or Accounting Manager

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Process accounts payable transactions, including vendor invoices, purchase orders, and payment requests.

  • General Ledger analysis and reconciliations: prepare month-end adjusting journal entries – depreciation, prepaid expenses, accrued expenses, etc. to help ensure accurate posting into the CostPoint ERP system.
  • Support audits and provide requested documentation (internal, external, DCAA as applicable).
  • Ensure all accounting processes align with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and company internal controls.
  • Support employees with timesheet and expense reports issues.

Education And Experience
