Summary:

The Staff Accountant III plays a key role in supporting accounting operations, performing complex reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting and system enhancements. This position is designed for an experienced accountant with leadership potential who aspires to grow into a supervisory role. While this is not a management position, the Staff Accountant III is expected to lead by example, support junior team members, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Job Functions:

Accounting Operations & General Ledger (35%)

Process monthly journal entries and month-end accruals.
Ensure accuracy in AP and AR processes; troubleshoot discrepancies.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across multiple entities.
Support allocation of labor and overhead costs.
Assist with ERP system updates, testing, and process documentation.

Reconciliations & Financial Reporting (30%)

Complete monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
Assist in the preparation of internal financial statements and variance reports.
Participate in the month-end and year-end close process.
Help ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.

Process Improvement & Cross-Functional Support (20%)

Recommend improvements to existing processes and workflows.
Document procedures and assist with accounting system optimization efforts.
Collaborate with operations, payroll, HR, and IT on cross-functional initiatives.
Support internal audits and external CPA firm requests.
Provide guidance and informal support to other Staff Accountants.
Develop and maintain SOPs and process training materials.
Lead by example with professional communication and ownership mentality.
Participate in internal training, mentoring, or onboarding initiatives as needed.
Strong leadership and mentorship skills.
Advanced knowledge of accounting principles (GAAP), financial reporting, and reconciliations.
Proficiency in accounting systems and ERP systems with demonstrated acumen around enhancing and advancing knowledge to fill knowledge gaps.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Good organizational skills, with a strong attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Equipment:

Standard office equipment such as computers and peripherals, desktop calculator, phones, photocopiers, and fax machines.

Software:

Spreadsheet, email, accounting, invoice tracking, and HRIS applications.

Safety:

Follow JT Logistics safety policies and procedures.

Special Conditions of Employment:

Employment is contingent on successfully passing pre-employment background check and drug screening.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in accounting, finance, or related field (preferred but no required).
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a logistics, transportation or staffing environment.
Previous experience or demonstrated acumen in training, mentoring or leading teams is a plus.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel, financial reporting tools, and ERP systems.
