Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Staff Accountant to perform monthly journal entries, patient cash uploads, reconciliations, and check scanning using the Lawson ERP system. This role supports hospital departments and collaborates with cashier and patient accounting teams to ensure accurate financial reporting.

The position requires a Bachelor's or Associate degree in accounting with 4+ years in health care accounting, excellent communication, and strong Excel/Word skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or Associate's degree in accounting with equivalent education/experience.
• At least four (4) years of professional experience in health care or industry accounting.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing.
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel and general ledger reporting.
• Experience using Lawson ERP (General Ledger) software is required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile accounts.
• Process patient cash uploads and reconciliations.
• Handle remote deposits via check scanning and related postings.
• Analyze accruals for hospital departments and generate Lawson reports.
• Serve as liaison between cashier, patient accounting, and cash collection teams.
• Prioritize, organize and multitask to meet deadlines and audit requirements.

Summary

The Staff Accountant position performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to monthly journal entries, patient cash upload and reconciliation, remote deposits via check scanning, analysis of accruals for hospital departments and various reports out of Lawson (ERP system). Performs all functions of accounting which includes knowledge of general ledger and financial reporting. Serves as liaison between cashier, patient accounting, and other point of cash collection departments. Must have the ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask to meet deadlines and handle urgent matters. Adheres to policies, procedures, and State and Federal regulations. Participates in the annual audit process.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or Associate's degree in accounting with equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience & Training Required

• At least four (4) years of professional experience in health care or industry accounting department.
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
• Excellent computer literacy
• High level of attention to detail
• Ability to manage, work on and complete multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure to meet deadlines
• Ability to work and foster a team environment

• Must possess good mathematical skills, decision making, and interpersonal skills in order to interact with other finance and other corporate departments.
• Must possess strong customer service skills and effectively work with the Financial Reporting team members
• Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word
• In-depth knowledge of concepts, best practices, and internal controls within Financial Reporting.
• Experience using General Ledger ERP (Lawson) software is required
• Must maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and financial records
• Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
