Job summary

Summa Health is seeking a Staff Accountant to join our finance team in Akron, OH, with a hybrid schedule (in-office Mon/Wed/Thu; home Tue/Fri).

The role handles monthly journal entries, cash uploads and reconciliations, and various reports from Lawson. You will analyze accruals for hospital departments, collaborate with cashier and patient accounting, and support audits while upholding internal controls.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • At least four years of professional accounting experience in healthcare or industry accounting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Strong computer literacy and Excel expertise.
  • Detail-oriented with ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting.
  • Experience with Lawson ERP software.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and reconcile accounts.
  • Process patient cash uploads and reconcile cash receipts.
  • Handle remote deposits via check scanning.
  • Analyze accruals for hospital departments and generate reports from Lawson.
  • Serve as liaison between cashier, patient accounting, and cash collection.
  • Support annual audit process.

Staff Accountant

40 hours per week / Hybrid schedule: Tue/Friday at home Mon/Wed/Thur in office

Summary

The Staff Accountant position performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to monthly journal entries, patient cash upload and reconciliation, remote deposits via check scanning, analysis of accruals for hospital departments and various reports out of Lawson (ERP system). Performs all functions of accounting which includes knowledge of general ledger and financial reporting. Serves as liaison between cashier, patient accounting, and other point of cash collection departments. Must have the ability to prioritize, organize, and multitask to meet deadlines and handle urgent matters. Adheres to policies, procedures, and State and Federal regulations. Participates in the annual audit process.

Minimum Qualifications

Formal Education Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration or Associate’s degree in accounting with equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience & Training Required:

  • At least four (4) years of professional experience in health care or industry accounting department.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent computer literacy
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Ability to manage, work on and complete multiple tasks simultaneously under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work and foster a team environment

Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

  • Must possess good mathematical skills, decision making, and interpersonal skills in order to interact with other finance and other corporate departments.
  • Must possess strong customer service skills and effectively work with the Financial Reporting team members
  • Expert knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • In-depth knowledge of concepts, best practices, and internal controls within Financial Reporting.
  • Experience using General Ledger ERP (Lawson) software is required
  • Must maintain confidentiality of patient, employee, and financial records
  • Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity

  • Sedentary: Exerts up to ten pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
Salary

$23.22/hr - $34.83/hr

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay. We believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members when determining offers. Please keep in mind that the range that is listed is the full base salary range. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical.
