Job summary

Somic America Inc. in Wytheville, VA is seeking a dedicated assembler to operate both automatic and manual assembly lines, assembling parts to specification and supporting quality goals.

You will perform hourly checks, monitor machine operation, and follow changeover procedures to keep production running smoothly. Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, basic math skills, and the ability to read safety and maintenance instructions.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions.
  • Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group settings.
  • Basic math skills including rate, ratio and percent; ability to draw and interpret charts.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate both automatic and manual assembly lines.
  • Perform hourly quality checks to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Notify Team Leader of any suspect material or abnormal conditions.
  • Execute changeovers per Changeover Procedure and complete checklists.
  • Move parts between machines and stations according to process flow.
  • Observe machines for malfunctions and report issues.
  • Complete planned maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Submit kaizen suggestions for improvements.

Job description

SUMMARYSets up and operates both automatic and manual assembly lines, assembles parts to specifications by performing thefollowing duties. Satisfy SA’s Quality goals and objectives in completion of activities or duties (reference Somic AmericaQuality Manual and Quality Policy).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.SafetyMaintain and provide a safe work area and work in a safe manner.Report any unsafe conditions to Team Leader immediately.QualityComplete Hourly checks using In Process Check Sheets and Gaging to ensure parts meet Quality SpecificationsNotifies Team Leader of any suspect material and helps to contain material line side.ChangeoversComplete changeovers using Changeover Procedure.Attach fixtures and jigs to the table positions according to changeover procedure.Change out Station changeover pieces according to changeover procedure.Fill in Changeover checklist to ensure all changeover steps are complete.OperationCompletes standardized work in accordance to Work Instructions.Removes material from boxes and places in fixture or on conveyor.Moves parts from machine to machine as process is completed, i.e. Bolt Press to Pre-Assembly to Final Assembly.Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions, such as worn rolling heads.Measures and inspects parts for conformance to specifications, using in process sheets, visual checks and gaging.Notify Team Leader of any abnormal or unusual condition.Complete line PM’s (planned maintenance) as assigned.Submit kaizen suggestions for improvements.QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily.
