Job summary

Somic America, Inc. in Brewer, ME manufactures steering and suspension components and seeks a skilled CNC Operator to set up and run precision machining operations.

You will perform changeovers, inspect parts, and ensure quality per process instructions, while maintaining safe, organized work areas. Responsibilities include hourly quality checks, tool changes, and contributing to continuous improvement through kaizen ideas.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret measurements and charts.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC equipment to machine components to specifications.
  • Perform hourly checks using in-process sheets and gauing to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Notify Team Leader of any abnormal or unusual condition.
  • Complete changeovers using the Changeover Procedure.
  • Assemble cutting tools and position tool holders as specified.
  • Complete line PMs and contribute to kaizen improvements.

Satisfy SA’s Quality goals and objectives in completion of activities or duties (reference Somic America QualityManual and Quality Policy).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.SafetyMaintain and provide a safe work area and work in a safe manner.Report any unsafe conditions to Team Leader immediately.QualityComplete Hourly checks using In Process Check Sheets and Gaging to ensure parts meet Quality SpecificationsNotifies Team Leader of any suspect material and helps to contain material line side.ChangeoversComplete Changeovers using the Changeover Procedure.Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to changeover instructions.Fill in Change over checklist to ensure all changeover steps are complete.OperationUtilize AIM to transact material at final step of process.Completes Standardized work in accordance to Work Instructions.Removes material from boxes and places in fixture or on conveyor.Observes and listens to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine. Offsets tool, as required.Measures and inspects parts for conformance to specifications/hourly checks, using in process sheets and gaging.Notify Team Leader or Production Manager of any abnormal or unusual condition.Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting toolsin specified machine magazines.Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.Complete line PM’s (planned maintenance) as assigned.Submit kaizen suggestions for improvements.QUALIFICATIONS : To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential dutysatisfactorily.
