Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a Surgical Technologist to support the Surgical Services team at UAB St. Vincent's Blount. The role focuses on facilitating safe surgical procedures, preparing the operating room, and handing instruments to the surgeon during operations.

The position requires a surgical technologist program completion (or equivalent experience) and a preference for BLS certification. A high school diploma equivalency is required; an associate degree is preferred.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider preferred (American Heart Association or Red Cross accepted).
• High school diploma equivalency plus surgical technologist program with clinical component.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.
• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery as requested.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain and track instrument counts throughout procedures; assist with hemostasis.

Job Description

Facilitate the safe and efficient performance of surgical procedures.

• Prepare surgical operating suite with sterile and non-sterile instruments and supplies.
• Hand required and requested instruments and supplies to surgeon during surgery.
• Assist with preparing, transporting, positioning and draping patients.
• Maintain instruments in an organized manner and monitor and track instruments counts throughout procedures.
• Assist surgeons provision of hemostasis during surgery.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider preferred. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education:

• High school diploma equivalency AND completion of a surgical technologist program with a clinical component OR a minimum of 4 years of applicable cumulative job-specific experience required.
• Associate's degree or technical degree preferred.
