Job summary

BNSF Railway is seeking Special Agent roles for the Special Response Team (SRT) in Los Angeles, CA, with extensive travel, high-risk deployments, and on-call requirements. This full-time position offers rigorous training at corporate and on-site locations, extensive protective duties, and the chance to operate advanced tactical equipment across the rail network.

The role demands a strong law enforcement background, 3+ years sworn experience, and the ability to coordinate with multiple agencies.

Qualifications

• Must be a commissioned peace officer in the posting state and maintain a valid license.
• Willing to travel frequently, work irregular hours, and be on-call 24/7.
• Minimum of 3 years sworn law enforcement experience.
• Experience coordinating operations with multiple law enforcement agencies.
• Knowledge of rail operations, right-of-way hazards, and infrastructure protection concepts.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Familiarity with federal rail security frameworks (TSA, FRA, DHS).
• Must pass extensive background investigation.

Responsibilities

• Participates in multi-state deployments and surge operations.
• Maintains readiness of specialized tactical equipment and vehicles.
• Supports 24/7 operational capability and on-call rotations.
• Executes SRT missions including high-risk apprehensions and rail corridor interdiction.
• Deploys rapidly to incidents across the BNSF network.
• Operates specialized tactical equipment (night vision, drones, etc.).
• Conducts surveillance and targeted enforcement with SRT leadership and partner agencies.
• Maintains continuous operational readiness through training and certifications.
• Supports incident command and may assume team leadership as directed.
• Navigates hazards unique to railroad environments.
