Job summary

BNSF Railway is seeking a highly experienced Special Agent in Charge for the Special Response Team (SRT) in Southern California. The role leads high‑risk rail security operations, coordinates with federal, state, and local partners, and ensures safety, compliance, and mission readiness across the network.

Travel is extensive, with detailed training at corporate HQ in Fort Worth and on‑site. A relocation package may be provided.

Qualifications

• Must meet peace officer commissioning standards in the posting state and maintain a valid State Peace Officer License.
• 18 months of full‑time peace officer experience.
• Minimum of 8 years law enforcement experience with 3+ years in tactical/special operations.
• Prior tactical team experience (SWAT/SRT or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years leading police team members.
• Willingness to travel frequently, work irregular hours, and be on‑call 24/7.
• Proven leadership with personnel and operations responsibility.
• Strong knowledge of patrol and tactical operations and applicable case law.
• Ability to make operational decisions and maintain command presence in high‑risk environments.
• Experience coordinating multi‑agency operations with federal partners.
• Advanced rail/tactical operations knowledge and safety protocols.

Responsibilities

• Lead, supervise, and evaluate SRT Special Agents and ensure training compliance.
• Plan and execute high‑risk rail operations and counter‑trespass initiatives.
• Manage daily schedules, rosters, and field deployments with real‑time situational awareness.
• Serve as on‑scene or tactical commander during SRT deployments.
• Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and department policies.
