Job summary

Leidos is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) Data Engineer to support the Navy's SMIT program. You will design and validate resilient data pipelines, run automated tests for performance and failure scenarios, and work with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable, secure data services in cloud and on-prem environments.

The role requires experience building ETL/ELT pipelines, SQL and Python, scripting with PowerShell and Ansible, and a DoD clearance.

Qualifications

• Requires B.S. degree with 4–8 years of relevant data engineering experience or Masters with 2–6 years of relevant experience.
• U.S. citizen with active DoD Secret Security Clearance.
• Located in or able to work onsite at Navy base in San Diego, CA, or nearby.
• Hands-on experience developing and operating production data pipelines, data integrations, data warehouses/lakes.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines from diverse sources.
• Build data models, schemas, views, and curated data sets for analytics and reporting.
• Write SQL, Python, and other approved languages; apply version control and release practices.
• Integrate cloud and on-premises data platforms; ensure secure data movement and performance.
• Implement data-quality checks, monitoring, and alerting; diagnose data issues and perform root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate with analysts, BI developers, data owners, and stakeholders to define data requirements.
• Apply data governance, security, privacy, and auditability across data lifecycle.
• Support platform upgrades, migrations, and performance tuning with minimal production disruption.
• Create technical docs including architecture diagrams, data dictionaries, and runbooks.
• Participate in Agile planning, reviews, and incident response as needed.
