Job summary

Abbott is seeking a Sr. UX/UI Designer for a 12-month engagement (Abbott Park, IL) with 100% remote work options.

You will craft cohesive, human-centered product experiences across biowearable devices, mobile apps, and digital platforms, translating complex health information into clear, end-to-end experiences. You will lead design collaborations, mentor peers, and elevate usability and accessibility while aligning with brand principles.

Qualifications

• Degree in Design, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in product design, UX design, or related field.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end, user-centered product design across mobile and/or desktop.
• Experience taking complex digital products from early concepts through delivery and iteration.
• Advanced proficiency with product design and prototyping tools, including Figma.
• Strong expertise in interaction design, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and visual design.
• Experience collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Research partners to ship customer-facing product experiences.
• Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and storytelling skills.

Responsibilities:

Design cohesive, human-centered product experiences

• Design connected experiences across biowearable devices, mobile applications, digital platforms, and service touchpoints.
• Translate customer needs, research insights, and complex health information into clear, seamless, and purposeful end-to-end experiences.
• Use storytelling, prototypes, and design rationale to connect customer needs with product strategy and measurable business outcomes.

Elevate interaction and visual craft

• Create polished experiences that improve usability, clarity, accessibility, and confidence.
• Develop prototypes and product demos that help teams evaluate complex workflows, communicate product behavior, and refine solutions.
• Translate brand principles into digital product experiences without compromising usability, accessibility, or trust.

Collaborate, influence, and raise the bar

• Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Research, Data Science, Brand, Marketing, and business leaders throughout the product lifecycle.
• Communicate design rationale, customer insights, and product recommendations clearly to cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
• Lead critiques, workshops, and collaborative working sessions that strengthen decision-making and product quality.
• Mentor peers, share best practices, and raise the standard for design craft, systems thinking, and customer-centered problem-solving.
• Influence product strategy by identifying opportunities and framing effective solutions in ambiguous, complex spaces.

Required Qualifications

• Degree in Design, Human Factors, Interaction Design, Visual Communication, or a related discipline.
• 6+ years of experience in product design, UX design, interaction design, or a related field.
• Portfolio demonstrating end-to-end, user-centered product design work across mobile and/or desktop platforms.
• Experience taking complex digital products from early concepts through delivery and iteration.
• Advanced proficiency with product design and prototyping tools, including Figma.
• Strong expertise in interaction design, information architecture, usability, accessibility, and visual design.
• Experience collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, and Research partners to ship customer-facing product experiences.
• Strong communication, facilitation, presentation, and storytelling skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience designing holistic consumer product experiences across physical devices and digital platforms.
• Experience bringing products from 0 to 1, including early-stage concept exploration, prototyping, validation, and launch.
• Experience creating prototypes that communicate sophisticated workflows, behaviors, and product vision.
• Experience translating brand systems into product experiences while maintaining usability and accessibility.
• Experience working in healthcare or a similar complex and regulated industry.
• Experience designing products that make complex data understandable and actionable for a broad range of users.
• Curiosity about emerging technology and AI-enabled design workflows, with a commitment to continually evolving design practice.
