Sr. to Lead Software Engineer / Product Engineer - AI Video Security Startup
Sunnyvale, CA (you can work remotely up to 1x/week)
The company's product involves AI, Video, Cloud Security, and IoT.
The company has about 15 employees and 6 engineers. It is self-funded, ARR is several million and has been doubling year over year.
In this position, you would be working with a mix of Go and Rust. You would be building features related to video, edge computing, AI, and more.
The company will pay a salary up to $275k, plus equity which could be lucrative.
Job Responsibilities
- Working about 50% with Rust and 50% with Go.
- Building and shipping video-centric applications, including camera pipelines, streaming systems, playback infrastructure, analytics, and third-party integrations.
- Designing and implementing end-to-end product features spanning backend APIs, data processing, and intuitive frontend user experiences.
- Integrating and applying large language models (e.g., OpenAI, Claude) to power capabilities such as video intelligence, automation, internal workflows, and developer tooling.
- Leveraging modern AI coding tools (e.g., Cursor, Copilot, Claude) to accelerate development and improve engineering productivity.
- Prototyping new ideas quickly, testing with real users, and iterating features based on feedback and usage insights.
- Partnering closely with founders, product leadership, and customers to translate product ideas into production-ready systems.
- Owning features and systems across the full lifecycle—from concept and implementation through launch, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Making pragmatic technical decisions that balance development speed, product quality, and long-term scalability.
Qualifications
- Strong product engineer mindset — you care about what you’re building and why.
- Skilled in at least one of: 1) Go, 2) Rust, or 3) C++.
- Experience in either edge computing and/or video.
- At least 3 (preferably more) years of professional experience.
- Familiarity with LLMs and modern AI tooling such as Claude or GPT-4/5 or similar, prompting, orchestration, and practical use cases.
- Comfortable using AI coding assistants to accelerate development.
- A builder mentality.
- You’ve shipped projects, side projects, startups, or scrappy MVPs.
- You enjoy ambiguity and figuring things out.
- Startup hustle: you move fast, take ownership, and don’t wait to be told what to do.
Nice to Have
- Experience with computer vision or video analytics.
- Experience with video technologies, such as streaming (RTSP, HLS, WebRTC), video encoding/decoding, video playback, storage, or analytics.
- Experience working with hardware-adjacent software (cameras, edge devices, NVRs).
- Previous startup or early-stage company experience.
