Qualifications

  • 8+ years of hands-on helium mass spectrometry leak detection experience.
  • Experience with vacuum and pressure measurements and data acquisition.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and understand specs.
  • Familiarity with leak test standards (ASTM E499/E498, ASME BPVC V).

Responsibilities

  • Perform helium mass spectrometry leak detection on cryogenic and high‑pressure systems.
  • Develop and validate leak test procedures and acceptance criteria.
  • Operate and maintain leak detectors and vacuum equipment.
  • Interpret leak-rate data and document results per specs.
  • Mentor junior technicians and collaborate with design/quality teams.

Your contributions will help ensure test readiness, data quality, and system reliability - directly supporting safe human spaceflight and sustained lunar exploration.We are seeking a Senior Test Technician with deep expertise in helium mass spectrometry leak detection to support the inspection and qualification of cryogenic and high-pressure systems. In this role, you will ensure the integrity of critical propulsion and fluid systems, directly contributing to safe and reliable flight hardware.This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable space flight. Join us in lowering the cost of access to space and enabling Blue Origin’s vision of millions of people living and working in space to benefit Earth.ResponsibilitiesPerform and lead helium mass spectrometry leak detection on cryogenic and high-pressure components, assemblies, and integrated systemsDevelop, refine, and validate leak test procedures, acceptance criteria, and work instructionsOperate, calibrate, and maintain helium mass spectrometer leak detectors and associated vacuum/pressurization equipmentDiagnose and troubleshoot leak paths in welds, joints, seals, and fittings; recommend corrective actionsInterpret leak rate data and document results in compliance with engineering specifications and quality requirementsProvide technical mentorship and training to junior technicians and engineersCollaborate with design, manufacturing, and quality teams to improve leak-tightness of hardwareEnsure adherence to safety protocols when handling cryogenics, testing high-pressure gases, and vacuum systemsSupport root cause investigations for leak-related nonconformancesMinimum Qualifications8+ years of hands-on experience with helium mass spectrometry leak detection (vacuum and pressure/sniffer methods)8+ years of hands-on experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems, including configuration, calibration, and monitoring (such as pressure, temperature, strain, and environmental sensors)Strong understanding of vacuum technology, gas flow, and leak rate fundamentalsExperience testing cryogenic and/or high-pressure fluid systemsAbility to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specificationsFamiliarity with leak test standards (e.g., ASTM E499, ASTM E498, ASME BPVC Section V)Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience in aerospace, propulsion, or spaceflight hardware environmentsASNT Level II or III certification in Leak Testing (LT) or Blue Origin equivalentExperience with test data acquisition systems and statistical analysisKnowledge of cleanliness requirements for oxygen and propellant systemsFamiliarity with AS9100 systemsCulture StatementDon’t meet all desired requirements?
