Base pay range

$45.00/hr - $50.00/hr

Position Overview

Our client is seeking a Sr Systems Programmer (CICS) in Raleigh, NC.

Role Description

Our Mainframe Engineering team is looking for an experienced, senior level Systems Programmer to support the CICS environment. This role includes installation, support, maintenance, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issues. The engineer will maintain the environment, respond to incident or service tickets, and provide after-hours on-call support as needed. Collaboration with support staff, outside vendors, and mentoring less experienced teammates are essential parts of this role.

• Support all CICS environments including installation, modification, analysis, debugging, configuration updates, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Lead the installation of new CICS versions through the project lifecycle.
• Apply IBM updates as required.
• Design, develop, and implement solutions within the CICS environment.
• Support front-end developers and third-party products related to CICS.
• Perform problem diagnosis, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and programming activities.
• Respond promptly to incidents and support tickets.
• Occasional end-user contact.
• Mentor less experienced teammates.
• Lead and participate in projects of varying complexity.
• Collaborate with cross-departmental support teams.

Skills & Requirements

• Extensive CICS systems programming experience, including implementation, maintenance, support, and table updates.
• Strong problem diagnostics skills.
• Ability to work independently and in teams with minimal supervision.
• Experience with capacity and performance tuning.
• Deep knowledge of mainframe storage (tapes, virtual tapes, DASD, GDPS).
• Proven ability to install, configure, and support multiple CICS regions.
• Experience supporting CICS table updates and Transaction Gateway.
• Skill in installing and customizing IBM and third-party software using SMP/E, z/OSMF, or other methods.
• Solid understanding of mainframe JCL, utilities, TSO, ISPF, SDSF, SMF, JES2, REXX, CLIST.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Availability for after-hours support in an on-call rotation.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8+ years of relevant experience.
• Experience with Db2, RACF, z/OS, z/VM, Linux, mainframe networking.
• Knowledge of monitoring tools like zMonitoring or Omegamon, GDPS, NetView, and System Automation.
• Mainframe storage management experience is beneficial.
