Job summary

Butler Aerospace & Defense seeks a Senior System Safety Engineer to develop and implement MIL-STD-882E compliant safety programs. You will perform hazard analyses, manage safety tasks, and coordinate with cross-functional teams across Raytheon interfaces and customer representatives.

You will help ensure system requirements and military standards are properly allocated and integrated, supporting programs from startup through production and disposal.

Qualifications

• Developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs.
• Performing MIL STD 882 System Safety Program tasks across management, analysis, evaluation, and verification.

Responsibilities

• Perform System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses.
• Brief safety considerations at technical reviews and safety approval processes.

• Prepare internal and customer reports describing analyses relevant to the System Safety program.
• Collaborate across disciplines to understand product architecture and design.
• Interface with Systems, Software, Electrical, and Hardware engineering functions.
• Manage System Safety Working Group(s) between Raytheon and customer representatives.

Position may be supporting Tewksbury, Woburn, or Marlborough, MA sites.

Description:

As a Senior System Safety Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing one or more MIL STD 882E compliant system safety programs
• Performing MIL STD 882 System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400)
• Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls
• Coordinating with customer safety representatives applying methods, standards, and techniques to provide clarification of system requirements to software, hardware, and test personnel to ensure design and architecture considerations are appropriately allocated to the system and horizontally integrated across the development teams
• Collaborating with Program Management and government approval authorities from program startup through production to demilitarization and disposal backgrounds

Key Responsibilities will include:

• Performing System Safety planning, hazard analyses, and design analyses
• Briefing safety considerations at technical reviews and as part of the safety approval process
• Interpreting system requirements, customer specifications and military standards
• Preparing internal and customer reports describing various analyses relevant to the System Safety program
• Collaborating across multiple disciplines to gain a full understanding of product architecture and design
• Interfacing with other engineering functions: Systems Engineering, Software or Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering
• Managing System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives
