The customer team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering, and System Technologist personnel working together in a high-performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission-critical communication systems.

Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services, some of our customer's mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as APX Next Smart and live mobile video transmission, supplementing our traditional core voice and narrowband data networks.

Job Description

Note: This is a remote role located in Florida.

Overview:

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for the public safety design and implementation of solutions for Motorola's ASTRO 25 and adjacent technologies for State and Local government agencies. We seek engineers who are energized by delivering solutions that truly make a difference.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement radio networks including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, WAN, and CEN networks.
  • Engage with customers and consultants through design reviews, staging, acceptance testing, coverage testing, live upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Buildout, configure, and perform acceptance testing of systems in lab and field environments.
  • Conduct radio coverage testing, frequency analysis, and interference mitigation.
  • Manage radio system licensing (FCC/Industry Canada/NTIA).
  • Prepare system fleet maps, encryption, and radio programming templates.
  • Document system configurations and procedures.
  • Lead live system cutovers and upgrades.
Additional Skills/Knowledge
  • Radio Frequency Engineering principles
  • Land/Mobile Radio Engineering principles
  • RFDS principles, including antenna and cable selection, transmit combiners, and lightning protection systems
  • P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and provisioning methods
  • Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture (a plus)
  • Servers and systems including VMware ESXI, Linux, and Microsoft OS
  • Construction of remote communication sites
  • Networking equipment such as Fortinet firewalls, Nokia routers, Juniper routers, HP/Aruba switches
  • Remote access protocols like SSH, SCP, SFTP, RDP
  • Knowledge of microwave systems, FCC licensing (a plus)
  • Software integration, API concepts, OSI model
  • Networking protocols including OSPF, BGP, MPLS, SIP, RTP, SNMP, NAT
  • Physical layer knowledge: fiber, copper, microwave
  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, CCNA (a plus)
  • Collaborative work style and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated with good communication and interpersonal skills

Target Base Salary Range: $98,100 - $196,200 USD. Compensation depends on experience and skills.
