The customer team includes Sales, Project Management, System Engineering, and System Technologist personnel working in a high-performance culture, often dealing with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations, as we work on mission-critical communication systems.

Many of our systems are designed around the APCO Project 25 communications standard. With the growth of data services, some of our customers’ mobile wireless networks are being enhanced with LTE infrastructure for applications such as the APX Next Smart and live mobile video transmission, supplementing our traditional core voice and narrowband data networks.

Job Description

Overview:

The Sr. Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions for Motorola’s ASTRO 25 and related technologies for State and Local government public safety agencies. We seek engineers energized by delivering solutions that truly make a difference.

Responsibilities:

• Lead technical aspects of projects until system acceptance, collaborating with Project Management, Systems Engineers, Technologists, Construction Managers, and Customer Service Managers.
• Perform as Engineer of Record for mid to large-sized projects.
• Work remotely from a home office, taking initiative, leading customer meetings, and coordinating with contractors and vendors.
• Manage multiple projects, balancing priorities effectively.
• Engage with customers and consultants through design reviews, system testing, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
• Communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Own technical solutions, solve problems, and adhere to project timelines.
• Design and implement radio networks, including infrastructure, subscribers, mobile backhaul, and WAN/CEN networks.
• Perform radio coverage modeling, testing, frequency analysis, interference mitigation, licensing, and system documentation.
• Manage live system cutovers and upgrades, and recognize when to seek assistance.
• Engage in continuous learning and development, including hands-on troubleshooting when necessary.

Additional Skills/Knowledge:

• Radio Frequency Engineering principles and Land/Mobile Radio terminology.
• RFDS principles, antenna and cable selection, lightning protection systems.
• P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and provisioning methods.
• Experience with Motorola ASTRO 25 architecture and subscriber radios is a plus.
• Familiarity with servers and systems such as VMware ESXI, Linux, Windows.
• Knowledge of communication site construction, wiring practices, and network devices (Fortinet, Nokia, Juniper, HP/Aruba).
• Remote access protocols and security, microwave systems, software integration, and networking protocols.
• Physical layer knowledge (fiber, copper, microwave).
• Self-motivated with strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Certifications:

• GROL, Amateur Radio License, or equivalent experience preferred.
• Certifications like COMPTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA are a plus.

Target Base Salary Range: $98,100 - $196,200 USD. Salary varies based on experience and skills.
