Job summary

Vanderweil Engineers seeks a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Power Group on high-profile transmission and distribution substations. You will lead design efforts, coordinate with geotechnical teams, and mentor junior staff in a hybrid office environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of structural engineering experience.
• 3+ years in substation structural design for transmission and/or distribution facilities.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• PE license.

Responsibilities

• Structural engineering and design of transmission and distribution substations, including new builds, expansions, and retrofits.
• Perform and review structural analysis and design using specialized software.
• Develop and oversee production of construction documents including drawings and calculations for steel, concrete, and foundations.
• Coordinate with geotechnical teams for foundation design.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers, designers, and drafters.

Responsibilities

• Structuralengineeringanddesignofbothtransmissionanddistributionsubstations,includingnewbuilds,expansions,andretrofits.
• PerformandreviewstructuralanalysisanddesignusingsoftwaresuchasRISA-3D,STAAD.Pro,L-Pile,RAMStructuralSystem,CSISAFE,orMathCAD.
• Developandoverseetheproductionofstructuralconstructiondocuments,includingdetailedspecifications,plans,andcalculationsforsteel,concrete,andfoundationsystems.
• Evaluateexistingstructuresforloadingcapacity,retrofitneeds,andcompliancewithcurrentcodes.
• Coordinatewithgeotechnicalteamsforinterpretationandapplicationofsoildataintofoundationdesign.
• Supportandleadfieldinvestigations,constructabilityreviews,andsiteassessments.
• Reviewandapprovedelegateddesignworkfromsubconsultantsorjuniorengineers,ensuringcompliancewithengineeringbestpracticesandprojectrequirements.
• Mentorandprovidetechnicalleadershiptojuniorengineers,designers,anddrafters.

Requirements

• 8+yearsofstructuralengineeringexperience,
• 3+yearsinsubstationstructuraldesignfortransmissionand/ordistributionfacilities.
• Bachelor’sdegreeinCivilEngineering
