Job summary

Northeastern University’s Antibiotic Discovery Center (ADC) seeks a Senior Research Technician to support a target-based screening platform for antibiotic discovery, assist in hit validation and compound isolation, and help manage routine lab operations.

The role involves executing microfluidics-based HTS assays, data analysis, and training new lab members in standard methods while maintaining safety and compliance in a collaborative research environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
• Minimum 2–3 years of hands‑on research experience in an academic or industrial setting.
• Technical expertise in molecular cloning, bacterial culture, and biochemical or enzymatic assays.
• Experience with natural product extraction, chromatographic purification, or analytical instrumentation (e.g., LC‑MS) is strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic research environment.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development of a novel microfluidics-based high-throughput screening platform.

• Participate in hit triage, secondary assays, and compound characterization, including natural product isolation and structure–activity studies.
• Operate and maintain equipment supporting screening and compound purification (e.g., LC, HPLC, plate readers, microfluidics sorters).
• Manage lab inventories, supplies, and safety compliance; coordinate maintenance and calibration of shared instruments.
• Contribute to protocol development, data management, and preparation of reports and presentations.
• Provide training and technical support to students and new lab members.

About the Opportunity
