Job summary

Northeastern University’s Antibiotic Discovery Center (ADC) is seeking a Senior Research Technician to support development of a microfluidics-based HTS platform, perform assays, and assist in hit validation and compound isolation on campus in Boston.

The successful candidate will contribute to lab operations, training, data management, and reporting, with 2–3 years of hands-on experience in microbiology/biochemistry; familiarity with natural product purification is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • 2–3 years of hands-on research experience in academic or industrial settings.
  • Experience in molecular cloning, bacterial culture, and enzymatic assays.
  • Experience with natural product extraction and chromatographic purification (LC/LC-MS) preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills in a dynamic team.

Responsibilities

  • Develop microfluidics-based HTS platform and perform assays to identify antibacterial targets.
  • Execute biochemical and microbiological assays and data analysis for screening.
  • Lead high-throughput and focused screening, including assay development and optimization.
  • Conduct hit triage, secondary assays, and compound characterization, including natural product isolation.

## Sr. Research Technician - Antibiotic Discovery CenterApply: Boston, MA (Main Campus): Full time: Posted Today: R142930**About the Opportunity**## **Job Summary**The **Antibiotic Discovery Center (ADC)** at Northeastern University is seeking a highly motivated **Senior Research Technician** to support the development and implementation of a target-based screening platform for antibiotic discovery, assist in downstream hit validation and compound isolation, and contribute to overall laboratory operations in a collaborative research environment.## ## **Responsibilities*** Contribute to development of a novel microfluidics-based high-throughput screening platform* Execute biochemical and microbiological assays to identify and validate antibacterial targets.* Support high-throughput and focused screening efforts, including assay development, optimization, and data analysis.* Participate in hit triage, secondary assays, and compound characterization, including natural product isolation and structure–activity studies.* Operate and maintain equipment supporting screening and compound purification (e.g., LC, HPLC, plate readers, microfluidics sorters).* Manage lab inventories, supplies, and safety compliance; coordinate maintenance and calibration of shared instruments.* Contribute to protocol development, data management, and preparation of reports and presentations.* Provide training and technical support to students and new lab members.## ## **Qualifications*** Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field.* Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on research experience in an academic or industrial setting.* Technical expertise in molecular cloning, bacterial culture, and biochemical or enzymatic assays.* Experience with natural product extraction, chromatographic purification, or analytical instrumentation (e.g., LC-MS) is strongly preferred.* Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to multitask in a dynamic research environment.**Position Type**Research**Additional Information**Northeastern University considers factors such as candidate work experience, education and skills when extending an offer.Northeastern has a comprehensive benefits package for benefit eligible employees.
