Job summary

The Gill Corporation-Maryland seeks a Senior Quality Engineer to provide senior-level QA support for aerospace manufacturing processes, products, and programs. You will lead root-cause investigations, drive corrective actions, and partner across Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality to uphold strict compliance and high product quality.

Responsibilities include reviewing technical documentation, overseeing First Article Inspections per AS9102, and developing shop-floor quality practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical engineering discipline is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive quality engineering in aerospace/defense or regulated manufacturing.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 requirements and aerospace quality practices.
  • Experience leading root-cause investigations and corrective actions.
  • Proficient in quality tools (8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA, SPC).

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level QA support for aerospace processes and programs.
  • Lead investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review engineering drawings, PO’s, specs to ensure quality compliance.
  • Develop and maintain shop-floor quality instructions and inspection docs.

  • Support supplier quality, audits, and corrective actions.
  • Mentor junior staff and promote cross-functional collaboration.

By utilizing broad engineering expertise along with sophisticated 5-axis CNC machining and special processing, we have the ability to deliver solutions that are responsive to customer needs.

Compensation for this role: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00 commensurate with experience.
Schedule: On-site - Monday through Friday
Summary:

The Senior Quality Engineer provides senior-level quality engineering support for aerospace manufacturing processes, products, and programs to ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, contractual, and internal requirements. This position provides technical leadership in identifying and resolving quality issues, leading root cause analysis, and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence. As a senior member of the Quality organization, the Senior Quality Engineer serves as a technical resource and partners across functions to drive continuous improvement, strengthen processes, and maintain high standards of product quality and compliance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Provides senior-level quality engineering support for manufacturing processes, products, and programs, including the investigation and resolution of complex quality and compliance issues.
  • Reviews and interprets engineering drawings, purchase orders, engineering models, customer specifications, contractual requirements, and other technical documentation to ensure applicable quality requirements are understood and met.
  • Leads cross-functional investigations of product and process nonconformances, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Reviews and approves engineering and manufacturing process documentation, including process sheets, part travelers, sketches, NC probe sheets, and other applicable technical documentation.
  • Develops and maintains shop floor quality instructions, inspection documentation, and data collection methods to support consistent and effective inspection processes.
  • Develops, evaluates, and oversees inspection methods, tools, and techniques to verify product conformity and ensure customer and specification requirements are met.
  • Leads and supports First Article Inspection activities in accordance with AS9102, partnering with Engineering, Manufacturing, and other appropriate personnel to ensure accurate and complete documentation.
  • Collects, analyzes, and documents quality data and results in accordance with company policies, procedures, customer requirements, and applicable quality standards.
  • Develops, implements, and verifies corrective and preventive actions to address product, process, and quality system issues and ensure actions are effective and sustainable.
  • Leads and supports customer corrective action responses using structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and other root cause analysis tools.
  • Supports supplier quality activities, including investigation of supplier-related nonconformances, corrective actions, recurring quality issues, and supplier performance concerns.
  • Identifies quality trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for process improvement and works cross-functionally to implement solutions that improve product quality, process capability, and overall quality performance.
  • Serves as a technical resource to other employees by sharing knowledge, providing guidance, mentoring less-experienced team members, and promoting collaboration among Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing, and other functional areas.
  • Demonstrates technical leadership, sound judgment, accountability, and effective communication when addressing quality concerns and working with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Performs work in accordance with all departmental and plant safety requirements and promptly reports unsafe conditions to the Safety Manager, supervisor, or appropriate member of management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Education (Required)
  • Bachelor's degree in Quality Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive quality engineering experience within aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of AS9100 quality management system requirements and aerospace manufacturing quality practices.
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspection requirements strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading root-cause investigations and corrective actions involving complex manufacturing or product quality issues.
  • Strong working knowledge of quality tools and methodologies, including 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, FMEA, SPC, process capability, control plans, and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, technical requirements, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) preferred.
  • Experience supporting internal, customer, and third-party quality audits.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, determine root causes, and develop sustainable corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively across Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Operations, and Supply Chain functions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate technical information effectively at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and quality initiatives within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, follow-through, and accountability.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and experience working with ERP (SAP preferred), QMS, or other manufacturing information systems.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt, or similar professional certification preferred.
  • Acceptable vision test results (as applicable).
