Job summary

PowerRise in Washington, DC seeks a senior Project Manager to lead large-scale electric utility transmission and substation projects from concept through closeout. You will direct cross-functional teams, manage cost, schedule, and risk, and interface with clients and regulators to ensure safe, compliant delivery.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years in electric utility project management, strong leadership, and expertise with MS Project/Primavera, Agile/Waterfall, and complex stakeholder

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical) or Construction Management.
  • 10+ years of progressive project management experience delivering large-scale electric utility projects (transmission/substation).
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with diverse teams.
  • Experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies and tailoring to project needs.
  • Proficiency with MS Project, Primavera P6, and collaboration platforms.

Position Summary

PowerRise is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Project Manager to lead and manage large-scale, complex electric utility projects specifically in the transmission and substation space. This pivotal role demands a deep understanding of the electric utility industry, extensive project management expertise, and exceptional leadership skills to navigate intricate challenges and dynamic stakeholder landscapes. You will provide strategic direction and comprehensive oversight to ensure successful project delivery from inception to completion.

Key Responsibilities:
STRATEGIC PROJECT LEADERSHIP & EXECUTION:
  • Develop, manage, and meticulously maintain comprehensive project plans, critical path schedules (utilizing tools like MS Project or Primavera P6), and robust budgets for largescale electric utility capital initiatives.
  • Lead, mentor, and inspire multidisciplinary project teams, fostering a collaborative, innovative, and highperforming environment that thrives on efficiency and excellence.
  • Oversee and direct all project phases, from initial concept and strategic planning through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and final closeout, ensuring unwavering alignment with client objectives, contractual requirements, industry best practices, and all regulatory mandates.
ADVANCED RISK MANAGEMENT & STAKEHOLDER COMMUNICATION:
  • Proactively identify, perform indepth analysis of, and strategically mitigate complex project risks by developing and implementing comprehensive risk management strategies and robust contingency plans.
  • Communicate with exceptional clarity, transparency, and professionalism to executive clients, key senior stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and internal project teams, providing timely, insightful updates, comprehensive reports, and impactful presentations.
CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, INNOVATION & INDUSTRY LEADERSHIP:
  • Drive innovation and champion continuous improvement initiatives within project management processes, tools, and methodologies, actively seeking opportunities to optimize efficiency, enhance quality, and improve project outcomes.
  • Stay at the forefront of industry trends, emerging technologies, and evolving best practices in utility project management to ensure PowerRise maintains its leadership position.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Civil, Mechanical), Construction Management, or a closely related technical or business field.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of progressive and impactful experience in project management, with a proven and verifiable track record of successfully managing and delivering largescale, complex projects specifically within the electric utility industry (e.g., major transmission, distribution, substation, or generation projects).
  • Strong, demonstrated leadership, communication (written, verbal, executive presentation), negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and effectively manage highperforming, diverse teams.
  • Expertise in a range of project management methodologies and best practices, including both Agile and Waterfall approaches, and the ability to tailor them to specific project needs.
  • High proficiency in project management software and tools, such as Microsoft Project, Asset Suite 8, Primavera P6, and modern project collaboration platforms.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration (MBA), or a related field.
  • Active Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI) is highly desirable.
  • Extensive experience with advanced risk management techniques and mitigation strategies for large capital projects.
  • Experience with program management, managing a portfolio of interconnected projects.
