Job summary

Vaco by Highspring is seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant/Senior Accountant in Milwaukee, WI to own critical accounting functions. You will lead month-end close, prepare reports with finance leadership, and ensure GL integrity while handling tax compliance across states.

You’ll partner with leadership to drive budgeting, forecasting, and process improvements in a fast-paced environment and contribute to audits, intercompany activity, and payroll-related accounting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Progressive accounting experience with strong general ledger and month-end close.
  • Experience with journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reporting packages.
  • Knowledge of sales and use tax compliance and multi-state filing requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems, preferably Sage Intacct.
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with expense management platforms such as Concur is a plus.
  • Experience working with project-based or job-cost environments is highly desirable.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the month-end close process, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and financial statement preparation.
  • Prepare and review monthly financial reports in partnership with finance leadership.
  • Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger through account analysis and recurring transaction review.
  • Manage sales and use tax filings and compliance across multiple states.
  • Prepare and reconcile intercompany transactions and related accounts.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities.
  • Assist with year-end close, audit preparation, and state tax audit support.
  • Generate daily banking activity, including deposits and positive pay files.
  • Prepare annual 1099 reporting and related compliance documentation.
  • Process and reconcile employee expense reports and job cost allocations.
  • Support payroll-related accounting activities including bonuses, employee advances, and related reconciliations.
  • Administer electronic timekeeping systems, including employee setup, reporting, maintenance, and training.
  • Assist with licensing, permitting, and other regulatory requirements as needed.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
  • Provide backup support for additional accounting functions, including credit card reconciliations and cost reclassifications.

Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional looking for an opportunity to take ownership of key accounting functions while partnering closely with finance leadership? Our client is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their growing team and play a critical role in financial reporting, month-end close, tax compliance, and process improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
