Skyworks Solutions, Inc. in Hillsboro, Oregon is seeking a Sr. Principal RF Design Engineer to lead the development of RF and microwave power amplifier modules for wireless applications.

You will design, simulate, characterize, and optimize high-performance circuits in a fast-paced team. The role requires a Ph.D./M.S. in EE with 10+ years in RF semiconductors, hands-on use of RF measurement equipment, and proficiency with ADS and HFSS for EM simulations.

Qualifications

• MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering and 10+ years in RF semiconductors.
• Proficient with RF circuit design and measurement equipment.
• Experience with ADS/HFSS EM simulations.

Responsibilities

• Develop RF/microwave power amplifier modules for wireless applications.
• Design input/output/interstage matching networks to optimize gain, efficiency, bandwidth, and linearity.
• Conduct load-pull, source-pull, harmonic balance, stability, and EM simulations.
• Interface with filter designers and product engineering to improve yields and introduce new products.
• Characterize and validate designs with test benches (Sig Gen, Spec An, Power Meter, VNA).

Responsibilities

Job Summary:

• Work in a fast-paced team environment developing modules for wireless communications applications. Job responsibilities include design, simulation, development, characterization, and production support of RF and microwave power amplifiers used in wireless communications. Design input, output, and interstage matching networks to optimize gain, efficiency, bandwidth, and linearity. Conduct load-pull, source-pull, harmonic balance, stability, and EM simulations.
• The position will interface with filter designers and and Switch designer and working with product engineering to improve yields and help introduce new products to manufacturing.
• Simulation tools such as Agilent ADS, and HFSS will be used for design and Module laminate.
• Act as liaison between design engineering, product engineering and characterization engineering to ensure designs are robust and have margin for high volume production.
• Responsible for all aspects of circuit design and product development, including working as a technical leader with team to find optimum solutions to the problems, feedback on specification and assigning work responsibility to RF technicians.
• Characterize and validate design and work on Test benches including Sig Gen, Spec An, Power Meter, VNA and probe-station to test and evaluate modules.

Qualifications

• M.S., or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering
• 10+ years of experience in RF semiconductors is a must, laminate experience desirable.
• ADS, and HFSS EM simulation experience is a mandatory.
• Experience in RF circuit design.
• Must be experienced with RF measurement equipment such as spectrum analyzers and network analyzers.

Desired Skills

• Excellent speaking, presentation skills a must, ability to clearly communicate technical and/or logistic issues and solutions.
• Detail oriented to ensure design and delivery of high yielding products.
• Be able to enjoy working in fast paced work environment.

Compensation & Benefits

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is currently USD$135,900 -$295,000 per year. Starting base pay will depend on relevant experience and skills, training and education, business needs, market demands, the ultimate job duties and requirements, and work location. Skyworks has different base pay ranges for different work locations in the U.S.
