Job summary

Schneider Electric in the United States is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to design, implement, maintain and upgrade electrical infrastructure within an industrial facility, ensuring safe operation and regulatory compliance.

The role covers power distribution, protective device coordination, arc‑flash studies, energy audits, and collaboration with cross‑functional teams. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 3–7 years in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • PE license preferred; knowledge of OSHA, NFPA 70E, and Arc Flash standards is a plus.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PLC programming, SCADA systems.
  • Familiarity with electrical distribution equipment from 15kV to 120/208V – switchgear, switchboards, relays, panelboards, motor controls, and VFDs.
  • Familiarity with ETAP or other standard power system analysis software for arc‑flash studies.

Responsibilities

  • Manage design and maintenance of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, and control systems throughout the facility including hazardous areas.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in machinery and plant infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for electrical equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical codes and safety regulations (NEC, NFPA 70E, 70B and 70E, NFPA 497 and 499).
  • Collaborate with engineering, mechanical, process, and automation engineers on cross‑functional projects.
  • Manage electrical projects from concept through commissioning, including budgeting and scheduling.
  • Conduct energy audits and recommend energy‑saving initiatives.
  • Maintain documentation such as schematics, wiring diagrams, and maintenance logs.
  • Conduct power systems assessments and make recommendations for maintenance, modernization, monitoring, and management plans.
  • Manage electrical system studies including short circuit calculations, protective device coordination, and arc‑flash hazard evaluation.
  • Plan, budget, and oversee electrical system maintenance and modernization plans in accordance with facility processes, procedures, and standards.
  • Manage development and maintenance for facility hazardous location classification maps and installed equipment evaluation for compliance with NEC requirements.
  • Solicit bids and funding requests to support site maintenance activities.
  • Coordinate with sub‑vendors to provide all services in support of the following: Planned, scheduled, and unplanned electrical maintenance; Site assessments, short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies.
  • Respond to facility emergencies and coordinate corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements to enhance facility performance and reduce operational costs.
  • Coordinate all facility activities with the Schneider Electric engineering teams.

Job description

The Senior Power Systems Engineer in this role is responsible for the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical infrastructure, equipment, and systems within a manufacturing or industrial facility. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of electrical infrastructure, supports production goals, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, PLC programming, SCADA systems.
    • Familiarity with electrical distribution equipment from 15kV to 120/208V – switchgear, switchboards, relays, panelboards, motor controls, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), and distribution cabinets.
    • Familiarity with ETAP or other standard power system analysis software for arc‑flash studies.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical thinking, communication, teamwork, and project management abilities.
  • Work Environment:
    • Industrial plants (e.g., pharmaceutical, automotive, chemical, food processing, energy).
    • Exposure to high‑noise, high‑voltage, and fast‑paced environments.
    • May require occasional travel.
