Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems in Chandler, AZ seeks a Sr. Principal Optomechanical Engineer to design optical assemblies, mounts and structures. You will perform STOP and SILOS analyses to ensure performance under demanding conditions, and develop parametric 3D CAD models with detailed drawings for review.

You will collaborate with optical, systems, and manufacturing teams, support environmental tests, and assist with design reviews while ensuring producibility and documentation quality.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years in opto-mechanical design or related field.
• Active DoD Secret clearance at time of application.
• Experience with STOP/SILOS modeling and optical performance impact.
• Proficiency with CREO/NX/SolidWorks; experience with optical imaging systems.
• Familiar with ISO and MIL-STD standards; strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to mechanical design of optical assemblies, mounts, and structures.
• Perform STOP and SILOS analyses to ensure optical performance across environments.
• Develop parametric 3D CAD models and detailed drawings.
• Collaborate with optical, systems, electrical, and manufacturing teams.
• Support environmental testing and correlate analysis with test data.
