Job summary

Northrop Grumman Space Systems in Chandler, AZ is seeking a Staff Optomechanical Engineer to support the Electro-Optics Group within the Launch Vehicles unit. You will lead mechanical design of optical assemblies for imaging and sensing systems and work with cross-disciplinary teams on integration and test.

Required STOP/SILOS analysis experience, strong 3D CAD skills (CREO/NX/SolidWorks), and familiarity with imaging systems from visible to LWIR.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s in ME, Optical Eng, or Physics with 12 years of related experience; or Master’s 10 years; or PhD 8 years.
• Active U.S. Government DoD Secret clearance required at time of application and current within scope.
• Strong experience in opto-mechanical or precision electro-mechanical design and integration.
• Proficiency with STOP and SILOS concepts and their impact on optical performance.

Responsibilities

• Lead or contribute to the mechanical design of optical assemblies, mounts, and structures.
• Perform Structural, Thermal, and Optical Performance (STOP) and SILOS analyses to ensure system performance.
• Develop complex 3D CAD models, detailed part/assembly drawings, and documentation.
• Collaborate with optical, systems, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams to refine requirements.
