Job summary

SMA America is seeking a Senior Failure Analysis Engineer to lead field investigations on medium voltage equipment and drive evidence-based root cause analysis. You will work with cross-functional teams across the globe, coordinating actions to prevent recurrence.

The role requires hands-on MV experience, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to travel up to 30%. Remote work within the United States is supported with periodic office visits to Rocklin, CA.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years in R&D, failure analysis, and quality engineering with customer relations.
• Hands-on field failure investigations on MV equipment (transformers, switchgear, converters) required.
• Expertise with 8D, 5 Why, Ishikawa, and Pareto analysis.
• Ability to travel 20–30% to customer sites and Rocklin, CA.

Responsibilities

• Lead hands-on field failure investigations on MV equipment including site inspection, testing, teardown and evidence collection.
• Perform technical failure and data analyses to determine root cause and mechanism.
• Apply 8D method for systematic corrective actions across product lifecycle.
• Ensure analyses are evidence-based and documented per standards.
• Collaborate with international teams and headquarters on actions.
• Develop failure descriptions and support other functions with technical guidance.
• Monitor effectiveness of corrective actions by service teams and suppliers.
