Job summary

Schnackel Engineers, Inc. in Honolulu, HI, seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer to develop mechanical plans and specifications for architectural projects using AI for MEP®. You will lead design tasks, perform HVAC calculations, and coordinate with the client and consultants across North America.

The role requires an ABET-accredited degree in Architectural or Mechanical Engineering, 5+ years of MEP design experience, and PE eligibility. Strong communication and leadership are essential.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on HVAC systems.
• Five+ years of mechanical design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant.
• Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering or eligibility.
• Strong communication and organization skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with the client, MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision and schedule.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls.
• Familiarize with applicable codes.
• Use AutoCAD and other software to create mechanical construction document packages including plans, equipment, ductwork, piping, and specs.
• Perform HVAC load calculations and related sizing.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors and manufacturers’ representatives for equipment selection.
• Provide construction administration (RFI responses).
• Mentor colleagues.

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to develop mechanical plans and specifications for architectural projects throughout North America using our new, groundbreaking software platform, AI for MEP®.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision, to identify and resolve areas of conflict, to ensure a fully coordinated interdisciplinary design, and to ensure the design schedule is maintained.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls when deemed necessary.
• Becoming familiar with the codes that are applicable to the project.
• Using AutoCAD and other software to create mechanical construction document packages which include plans with appropriate equipment, ductwork, piping, and construction specifications.
• Performing HVAC load calculations, ductwork, pipe sizing, and any other calculations required to support the mechanical design.
• Coordinating with equipment vendors and manufacturer’s representatives for selection and specification of appropriate equipment.
• Provide construction administration (CA) services, including answering requests for information (RFIs).
• Provide mentoring and guidance for colleagues.

What We Are Looking For

• ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on HVAC systems.
• Five or more years of mechanical design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant.
• Advanced proficiency with California Building, Mechanical, and Energy Codes.
• In possession of, or ability to obtain, Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering.
• Exceptional communication and organization skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving necessary direction and information.
