Job summary

Schnackel Engineers, Inc. in Omaha, NE, seeks a Plumbing Engineer to develop plumbing plans and specifications for architectural projects across North America using our AI for MEP® software.

You will coordinate with the design team and clients, apply applicable codes, and produce construction documents with isometrics, schedules, and details. This role requires an ABET-accredited degree, AutoCAD/Revit proficiency, and strong communication to mentor colleagues in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering or related program.
• Plumbing design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant preferred.
• Experience managing projects and familiarity with drawings, permitting, and regulatory requirements.
• Engineer-Intern (EI) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering.
• Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) certification, or pursuit thereof.
• Basic understanding of plumbing theory (system layout, sizing, flow characteristics).
• AutoCAD and/or Revit experience evident in project work.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is aligned with the client’s vision and schedule.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls as deemed necessary.
• Familiarize with codes applicable to the project.
• Use AutoCAD and other software to create plumbing construction document packages including fixtures, piping, isometrics, schedules, details, and specifications.
• Perform load, pipe sizing, and equipment sizing calculations to support design decisions.
• Coordinate with local utility companies to provide required services.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors and representatives for selection and specification of equipment.
• Provide construction administration (RFI responses) and mentoring for colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision, to identify and resolve areas of conflict, to ensure a fully coordinated interdisciplinary design, and to ensure the design schedule is maintained.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls when deemed necessary.
• Becoming familiar with the codes that are applicable to the project.
• Using AutoCAD and other software to create plumbing construction document packages which include plumbing fixture connections, equipment connection, and associated piping, plumbing isometric riser diagrams, appropriate schedules, details, and construction specifications.
• Performing all required calculations to support design decisions, including load calculations, pipe sizing calculations, and equipment sizing calculations.
• Coordinating with local utility companies to provide the required utility services to the project.
• Coordinating with equipment vendors and manufacturer’s representatives for selection and specification of appropriate equipment.
• Provide construction administration (CA) services, including answering requests for information (RFIs).
• Provide mentoring and guidance for colleagues.

What We Are Looking For

• In possession of an ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering, Architectural Engineering Technology, or related educational program.
• Previous plumbing design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant is preferred.
• Experience managing projects and familiarity with related drawings, permitting, and regulatory requirements.
• In possession of, or ability to obtain, Engineer-Intern (EI) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering.
• In possession of, or desire to obtain, Certified Plumbing Designer (CPD) Certification.
• Basic understanding of plumbing theory (system layout, sizing, flow characteristics, etc.).
• Previous AutoCAD and/or Revit experience.
• Exceptional communication and organization skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving necessary direction and information.
• Thrive in fast-paced environments with desire to work efficiently.
