Job summary

Schnackel Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to develop mechanical plans and specifications for architectural projects across North America using AI for MEP®. You will design, coordinate, and detail HVAC systems, working with a team to deliver high-quality plans leveraging our AI-based platform.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering (Mechanical emphasis) or Mechanical Engineering with HVAC focus.
• Three to five years of mechanical design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant.
• Proficiency with Building, Mechanical, and Energy Codes.
• Engineer-Intern (EI) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering or ability to obtain.
• Exceptional communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate with the client, MEP/FP/IT design team and other consultants to ensure design coordination and schedule adherence.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls as needed.
• Familiarize with applicable codes.
• Create mechanical construction document packages using AutoCAD and related software.
• Perform HVAC load calculations, duct sizing, and piping calculations.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors and reps for selection and specification of equipment.
• Provide construction administration, including RFIs.
• Mentor and guide colleagues.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinating with the client, the MEP/FP/IT design team, and other consultants to ensure the design is consistent with the client’s vision, to identify and resolve areas of conflict, to ensure a fully coordinated interdisciplinary design, and to ensure the design schedule is maintained.
• Participate in meetings and conference calls when deemed necessary.
• Becoming familiar with the codes that are applicable to the project.
• Using AutoCAD and other software to create mechanical construction document packages which include plans with appropriate equipment, ductwork, piping, and construction specifications.
• Performing HVAC load calculations, ductwork, pipe sizing, and any other calculations required to support the mechanical design.
• Coordinating with equipment vendors and manufacturer’s representatives for selection and specification of appropriate equipment.
• Provide construction administration (CA) services, including answering requests for information (RFIs).
• Provide mentoring and guidance for colleagues.

What We Are Looking For

• ABET-accredited degree in Architectural Engineering with a Mechanical emphasis or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on HVAC systems.
• Three to five years of mechanical design experience with an MEP/FP engineering consultant.
• Proficiency with Building, Mechanical, and Energy Codes.
• In possession of, or ability to obtain, Engineer-Intern (EI) and/or Professional Engineer (PE) credentials in Mechanical Engineering.
• Exceptional communication and organization skills, including ability to prioritize tasks and multitask.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently upon receiving necessary direction and information.
