Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Melbourne, FL team. The role emphasizes design, analysis, manufacture and testing of aircraft Support Equipment for military aircraft.

The candidate will work with cross-functional teams, perform stress analysis, develop test plans, and travel occasionally to site locations. A STEM degree with CAD experience and the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field required; 8+ years with Bachelor, 6+ with Master, or 4+ with PhD in military/professional experience or equivalents.
  • Experience using CAD software to generate detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing mechanical/electrical assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government Secret clearance or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment for military aircraft.
  • Gather data, develop requirements with suppliers, and perform basic stress/tolerance analysis.
  • Serve as manufacturing liaison during build to ensure quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Develop test plans and perform environmental testing of Support Equipment.
  • Test and integrate manufactured equipment on aircraft.
  • Use CAD tools (NX, Pro/Engineer, or CATIA) for mechanical design drawings.
  • Collaborate across levels in a fast-paced environment and travel to site locations as needed.
