Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is seeking a Senior Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Melbourne, FL, onsite. You will contribute to the analysis, design, manufacture, and testing of aircraft support equipment.

You will develop test plans, perform environmental testing, and work with suppliers and manufacturing to meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives. A DoD Secret clearance and strong CAD skills are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in STEM with related engineering experience.
  • Proficient CAD skills for detailed manufacturing drawings.
  • Active DoD Secret or higher security clearance.
  • Ability to obtain required program access within a reasonable time.

Responsibilities

  • Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment for military aircraft.
  • Data gathering, requirements development, supplier interfacing, and basic stress analysis.
  • Liaise with manufacturing during build to ensure quality, delivery, cost objectives.
  • Develop test plans and environmental testing of equipment.
  • Test and integration of equipment on aircraft.

This position will be located onsite in Melbourne, FL.AccomplishYou candidate will contribute in the analysis, research, design, manufacture, and testing associated with aircraft Support Equipment.Essential Functions:

  • Mechanical design of test, measurement, and handling equipment used on military aircraft.
  • Gathering of data, requirements development, interfacing with suppliers, and performing basic stress and tolerance analysis
  • Acting as manufacturing liaison during build process of your project to ensure overall quality, delivery, and cost objectives are achieved
  • Development of test plans and performing environmental testing of Support Equipment
  • Testing and integration of manufactured Support Equipment on aircraft
  • Extensive experience in design, drafting, and stress analysis of mechanical systems. Drafting skills shall include strong knowledge of solid modeling software, (NX, Pro Engineer, or Catia), or CAD based computer drafting software.

You should thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, collaborative/team settings across all levels. Candidate must also be willing to travel to various site locations to demonstrate the function of the designed equipment.

  • Must have a Bachelors in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 8 years related engineering experience; Master’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university with 6 years related engineering experience
  • Proficient using CAD software in generating detailed engineering drawings used for manufacturing of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies
  • Current, active in-scope DoD Secret or higher security clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
  • Proficient using FEA software in performance of stress analysis of mechanical and/or electrical assemblies to include static and dynamic analysis to MIL-STD-810 requirements
  • FAA A&P Certificate or equivalent aircraft maintenance background
  • Experiencedeveloping manufacturing drawings toGD&T standards
