Job summary

BlueLinx Corporation in Des Moines, IA is seeking a Material Handler/Forklift Operator to assist in our distribution center. You will safely load trucks and unload railcars, supporting a culture of safety and quality of service.

Responsibilities include operating forklift per safety guidelines, loading/unloading materials, preparing shipping paperwork, and maintaining a clean, organized work area. Prior forklift/warehouse experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• One year or recent forklift/warehouse experience.
• Ability to proficiently and safely use forklift to transport product, load/unload trucks.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Ability to work independently, at times under pressure.
• Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
• Ability to read/comprehend sales order, purchase orders, safety material, etc.
• Detail oriented and organized, basic math skills.
• Safe work record and stable work history.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklift in compliance with forklift training and safety guidelines.
• Load/unload/store building materials from trailers or rail cars while minimizing damage.
• Store and retrieve material (piece pick and/or bulk).
• Prepare the paperwork required for distribution and shipping of products.
• Performs daily inspection and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains cleanliness and tidiness in working and assigned area.
• Assists in periodic inventory counts as requested.
