Job summary

Phillips 66 is seeking a Sr Market Risk & Quantitative Analyst to join a team that identifies, measures, and reports market risks for commodity trading activities. You will help build risk systems (VaR, stress tests, volume monitoring) and deliver risk insights to trading desks.

Requirements include a STEM/quantitative degree and 5+ years of market risk or Python engineering experience; advanced Python, SQL, and data handling skills are essential.

  • 5+ years of market risk/quantitative analysis on trading floor or 5+ years of Python engineering experience.
  • Expert Python programming with large data-set management using SQL and other tools.
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM/quantitative field; advanced degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Produce global daily risk reports (VaR, stress tests) and explain drivers of change.
  • Build and maintain systems to calculate and publish market risk reporting.
  • Provide commodity-level risk coverage and clear risk assessments for desks.
  • Collaborate with Product Control and support functions for holistic reporting.
  • Support scenario analysis, maintain controls, and advise on policy/regulatory alignment.

As a Sr Market Risk & Quantitative Analyst (Sr Advisor II, Market Risk & Quants), you will join a team that supports commodity trading activities by identifying, measuring, and reporting market and other risks, while helping ensure trading activity operates within approved limits and risk appetite. You will also help build and enhance the market risk systems and tools, such as VaR, stress testing, and volume monitoring, used to monitor and analyze risk exposures.

What You'll Do
  • Produce timely and accurate global daily risk reports, including VaR and stress testing, and explain key drivers of change.
  • Build and maintain systems used to calculate and report market risk, from position and price data through to published reporting.
  • Provide commodity‑level coverage for one or more trading desks, delivering clear risk assessments including key portfolio activity, risk drivers, and market developments.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Control and other support functions to support holistic risk reporting.
  • Support scenario analysis and modeling, maintain internal controls, and provide recommendations to management to ensure activities align with risk policies and regulatory requirements.
What You'll Bring – Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelor's degree in STEM, financial engineering, or another highly quantitative field
  • 5 or more years of relevant experience in on-trading floor (or similar environment) market risk and quantitative analysis OR 5 or more years of Python engineer‑level coding experience
  • Expert‑level Python programming skills and strong experience managing large data sets using SQL and other tools

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex quantitative findings into clear, actionable insights for trading and management audiences, and to produce concise presentations of quantitative data
  • Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, open trading‑floor environment while managing multiple priorities
  • Experience with physical energy trading protocols and financial instruments as applied in commodity trading
  • Experience in model validation
  • Experience with ETRM systems, especially RightAngle or Allegro
  • Experience applying machine learning or advanced statistical modeling techniques to market risk or quantitative finance problems
  • Experience architecting quantitative risk platforms, including data pipelines, calculation engines, and reporting layers
  • Advanced degree in a highly quantitative field
Compensation Range

This position has a base salary range of $160,200 – $195,800.

We do this by maximizing general interest profitability, enhancing return on capital employed by successfully partnering with the Refining, Transportation and Marketing functions to ensure Value Chain Integration. Our truck and rail fleets support our feedstock and distribution operations. Rail movements are provided via a fleet of more than 10,000 owned and leased rail cars. Truck movements are provided through numerous third‑party trucking companies, as well as through our 100 percent‑owned subsidiary, Sentinel Transportation LLC.
