Collins Aerospace in Troy, Ohio seeks a Sr. Manufacturing Engineer to lead assembly processes, lean improvements, and capital projects in a high‑mix aerospace environment.

Requires a university degree, 5+ years of relevant experience, and U.S. Person status. You will drive process validation, PFMEA, and cross‑functional collaboration with Quality, EH&S, and Maintenance teams.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field with minimum 3 years of experience.

• 3+ years implementing new equipment, automation, or tooling in a production environment.

• Availability for off-shift or weekend work for projects and training.

Responsibilities

• Assure manufacturing process, equipment, tooling, fixture design, routings, programming, and standard work for production assembly.
• Develop, optimize and sustain assembly processes using lean principles and visual management.
• Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives to improve safety, quality, delivery and productivity.
• Identify and implement labor, material, and capital cost savings.
• Manage projects using gated structure including scope, timeline, risk management and gate reviews.
• Lead capital projects including equipment justification, vendor management, installation, commissioning, and process validation.
• Perform Industrial Engineering analyses such as time studies, line balancing, work sampling, and ergonomic evaluations.
• Support compliance activities including AS9100, NADCAP and internal audits.
• Provide technical liaison across Value Streams, Quality, EH&S, Design Engineering, Maintenance.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to production teams and drive root-cause investigations.

What You Will Do

• Assure manufacturing process, equipment, tooling, fixture design, routings, programming, and standard work in support of production requirements for assembly operations.
• Develop, optimize and sustain assembly processes using lean principles – standard work, flow optimization, waste elimination and visual management.
• Lead Continuous Improvement initiatives using structured methodologies (A3, RCA, PDCA, VSM, Kaizen) to improve safety, quality, delivery and productivity.
• Identify and implement cost savings related to labor utilization, scrap reduction, process efficiency and capital deployment.
• Manage and lead projects using a gated project management structure – including scope definition, timeline development, cross-functional alignment, risk mitigation and gate reviews.
• Lead capital projects including equipment justification, vendor management, installation, commissioning (FAT/SAT) and process validation.
• Conduct Industrial Engineering analyses such as time studies, line balancing, work sampling, ergonomic evaluations, and capacity modeling.
• Support compliance activities including AS9100, NADCAP and internal audit readiness; ensure processes maintain certification-related requirements.
• Serve as technical liaison between Value Streams, Quality Assurance, EH&S, Design Engineering, and Maintenance to ensure aligned and robust manufacturing support.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to production teams; investigate issues, lead root‑cause analysis, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Maintain process documentation including PFMEAs, control plans, work instructions, tool specifications and production layouts.
• Own the training rollout for all process and equipment changes, ensuring operators and support teams are properly trained, documented, and aligned prior to implementation.
• Support off‑shift or weekend activities on an as‑needed basis to ensure successful project execution, training deployment and resolution of critical production issues.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Typically requires a University Degree and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
• U.S. Person status required due to access to controlled information under this program/contract.
• 3 or more years of experience supporting manufacturing operations with strong emphasis on assembly processes, troubleshooting and problem solving.
• Demonstrated experience applying Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement tools (A3, VSM, Kaizen, Standard Work, 5S, root‑cause analysis).
• Proven experience leading gated project management activities (scoping, scheduling, risk management, cross‑functional gate reviews and capital project execution).
• 3 or more years of experience implementing new equipment, automation, tooling, or technologies into a production environment.
• Ability to analyze data, interpret KPIs and develop data‑driven recommendations for process improvement.
• Ability to support off‑shift or weekend work on an as needed basis for projects, equipment launch, training or major troubleshooting.
• Ability to develop and deliver clear presentations for project updates, technical reviews, and justifications of process or capital improvements to site leadership.

Qualifications We Prefer

• 7 or more years of manufacturing engineering experience in assembly or high-mix aerospace production environments.
• Demonstrated leadership executing Lean/Continuous Improvement initiatives (Kaizen leadership, value stream mapping facilitation, standard work development).
• Experience managing complex, multi‑phase projects using a gated project management framework, including capital equipment justification and implementation.
• Experience developing and optimizing manufacturing layouts, flow, and ergonomics using Industrial Engineering tools (time studies, line balancing, material flow analysis).
• Strong analytical skills using data to drive decisions, including statistical methods, process capability studies, and operational metrics (OEE, throughput, scrap).
• Experience with PFMEA development, control plans, PPAP/FAI documentation, or aerospace process validation requirements.
• Proficiency with CAD tools or digital layout tools for equipment placement and fixture design.
• Experience implementing automation, error‑proofing (poka‑yoke), or process control systems within assembly environments.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially in cross‑functional environments (Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, EH&S, Maintenance).
• Experience leading New Product Introduction (NPI) activities including process development, tooling requirements, trial builds, operator training and production launch.

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
