Job Summary:
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer position utilizes a broad range of knowledge, education, skills, and talents to initiate change and contribute significantly to the goals and objectives of Production Engineering, Operations, and the Company.
Responsibilities and Tasks
- Develop and implement manufacturing strategies and processes to optimize efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Project lead for build process and documentation, configuration changes, methods, and tools for production programs.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design engineers, quality engineers, and production personnel, to ensure smooth production operations and timely delivery of products.
- Develop and present data, proposals, and projects to a diverse group of personnel.
- Lead and participate in process improvement projects, utilizing Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to identify and eliminate waste, improve productivity, and enhance product quality.
- Evaluate existing manufacturing processes and equipment, identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes to enhance efficiency and productivity.
- Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve production issues and minimize downtime.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow charts, and SOPs.
- Train and mentor junior manufacturing engineers, providing guidance and support in their professional development.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in manufacturing technology, processes, and industry best practices, and implement relevant changes to improve manufacturing processes.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in manufacturing processes.
- Coordinate between engineering, production, and management for effective and efficient manufacturing and delivery.
- Support outsourcing and make/buy decisions.
- Transfer of build processes from/to other facilities.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education, Experience & Certification
- Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree preferred.
- Certification in Lean Six Sigma.
- Engineering degree required.
- 7+ years of experience in a Manufacturing Engineering role, preferably in a senior or leadership capacity.
- 5+ years of experience in highly regulated industries such as Aerospace or Medical.
- Training prerequisites within one year of employment: ESD, Safety Training (as dictated by Safety Department).
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards relevant to manufacturing processes.
- Experience in electronic assembly manufacturing.
- Ability to read and interpret technical data packages.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and photo editing programs for producing production files.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes including machining, assembly, and inspection.
- Experience with manufacturing software and tools like CAD/CAM, statistical analysis, and simulation software.
- Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex manufacturing issues.
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong project management skills.
- Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing resource planning.
- Skills in training and mentoring employees.
- Ability to work on international issues and manage configuration management software.
- Ability to work effectively in a union environment and obtain security clearance.
